Alfred University is looking for approximately four to eight Lifeguards, under general supervision, to ensure the safety of patrons at an outdoor waterfront/recreation area by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Rate: $16.00 per hour

Responsibilities:Provide secure safety of patrons in the event of emergencyProvide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical servicesPresent professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer servicePerform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facilityPrepare and maintain appropriate activity reports. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedProvide information to visitors with Foster Lake AccessRequirements:Current certifications by a New York State recognized source of training in Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding required, Waterfront Lifeguarding preferred:Should have reliable transportation and cell/smart phoneAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsSkill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniquesAbility to pass a pre-employment lifeguarding and CPR skills evaluation as stipulated by the managerRegularly practice skills throughout the lifeguarding seasonAbility to prepare routine administrative paperworkKnowledge of CPR and emergency medical proceduresAbility to follow routine verbal and written instructionsKnowledge of customer serviceAbility to maneuver a watercraft with oars or paddleMust be willing and able to swim in an outdoor water environmentMust be willing to spend time in the outdoors, interact with potential wildlife, and be exposed to inclement weather conditions at timesPreference will be given to those over 18 years of age due to work requirements
