POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Life Guard is responsible for day to day operation of the sections he / she is assigned to within the Health Club Department.    

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Perform LIFEGUARD DUTIES which include the following: 

Deliver appropriate safety procedures in time of crises and emergency.Maintain concentrated observation either from an elevated position or while patrolling the water’s edge.Intervene with one of the drowning preventive measures and to identify emergencies quickly.Carry out rescues and initiate other emergency action as necessary.Give immediate first aid in the event of injury to a guest or other incidents.  

2.    To identify return guests and VIPs (local and foreign) and ensure that each guest contact session is a delightful experience as well as demonstrate an appreciation of cultural diversity.
3.    Constantly review and update safety procedures and ensure that guests of the Health Club and Pool follow the rules and safety regulations stipulated by the Company and laws of the country and the city.
4.    Under no circumstances, solicit or request gratuities in the form of tips or payment in kind.
5.    Promote guest recreation activities always and ensure that all guests using the recreation facilities are being well taken care of and their safety is always the top priority.
6.    Be a competent user of available life-saving equipment and automation tools used within the Health Club or section.
7.    Facilitate training programs that deliver a high degree of awareness on guest safety and security
8.    Use the guest name at least once during interaction with a guest

9.    Respond to all guest requests in a courteous manner.
10.    Be polite and enforce the rules firmly and equally for everyone. 
11.    Ensure the maintenance of the Health Club and Pool areas including the changing facilities are according to Company standards.  This includes:

Daily vacuuming of the swimming poolCleaning swimming/pool equipmentRestocking, tidying, and clearing area of used towels and other waste. 

12.    Follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) created to maintain a consistency in service standards and practices. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
13.    Effectively attend to customers’ concerns by establishing each customer's needs and trying to meet their requests provided by the Company.
14.    Ensure that all facilities are operating efficiently to successfully achieve the highest possible revenue and profit.
15.    Ensures hygiene standards are adhered to at all times, including disinfecting any equipment surfaces between users.  A thorough cleaning of swimming accessories should be performed at the end of each day.
16.    Attend meetings as required including scheduled training to refine and upgrade skills and participates in company-initiated employee activities.
17.    Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).
18.    Comply with Lost and Found procedures at all times
19.    Identify and implement best practices both in the overall Health Club and Pool operation as well as throughout the hotel.
20.    To report for duty punctually adhering to the set procedures for attendance and timekeeping.
21.    Adheres to the established uniform, grooming, and specified hygiene and personal appearance standards.
22.    Maintain the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, and attitude towards guests and colleagues. 
23.    Look out for any person behaving in a suspicious manner and inform security accordingly.
24.    Keep interactions with other guests short and do not let them interrupt your primary responsibilities.
25.    Report and log complete record or details of an incident/accident, injuries, unsafe work conditions and/or security issues at the Pool area and ensure that it is reported in ITRAK

26.    Ensure that the 10/20-second rule in Pool is applied when on duty.
27.    Complete a daily check-list on security and standards inspection of the Pool areas and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Spa / Health Club Manager. Ensure that the Pool and pool areas are in good working condition.
28.    Transfer, check, and handle all the pool equipment of the swimming pool carefully.  Should be easily accessible.
29.    Cooperate with Engineering and Pool contractors twice a day in checking and maintaining the proper balance of chemicals (chlorine and pH levels) in order to keep the pool and Jacuzzi sanitary.  The readings are to be logged by the lifeguard and daily logs are to be maintained. 
30.    Perform other reasonable job duties as assigned by superiors from time to time.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

I    Experience

Minimum 2 years working experience in a Health Club, luxury Hotel Health Club & Spa with sound knowledge and understanding of the business.International Health Club experience is an advantage

II    Education 

High school or college level of any course
Life Guard must have the following certifications from Philippines / Red Cross lifesaving society: 

Water rescueFirst aidSurveillance procedures and techniquesThunderstormHow to use oxygen equipmentOther certifications required by local laws

III    Skills / Competencies 

1. Ability to read and communicate in English

2. Excellent interpersonal  and customer service skills 

3. Has a strong work ethics and understands different cultures and diversity

4. Ability to work on overtime when needed  as well as work on flexible shift including overnight, weekends and holiday on rotation basis

5. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time

6. Exhibits advanced training skills 

Must be able to swim 200m freestyle in less than 4 min and 30 sec50m breaststroke in uniform25m side stroke (Left and right side) in uniformTread water for 5 min in uniformRecovery of an object from the deepest part of the pool – minimum 1.2m in uniform.
