The Office of Academic Affairs, URecFit and Wellness has an opportunity for a part time, contractual Lifeguard (Contingent Category I Contractual Employment) in the SMC Campus Center. URecFit and Wellness is committed to enriching the academic experience as well as encouraging the physical, mindful, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and social development of the UMB community. Under general supervision, Lifeguard will maintain constant watch of patrons in the pool to ensure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Work requires outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. The selected candidate will exercise discretion and judgement with considerable consequence of error.
UMB is a Maryland state university. Applicants are expected to reside in or be able to relocate to the State of Maryland. Consideration may also be given to residents of the District of Columbia, Delaware, Virginia, or West Virginia. This residency requirement also applies to those performing telework.
This position is a non-benefited, Contingent Category I Contractual position; Mostly weekday with evening and weekend work required
Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director and Coordinator for Aquatics the primary duties will be:
Maintain constant watch of patrons in the pool and enforces all safety standards Act immediately and appropriately to ensure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Inspect facility and equipment regularly and report issues. Perform various maintenance and custodial duties as assigned. Perform facility checks in the locker rooms, on the pool deck, and other areas adjacent to the pool. Maintain a clean and safe environment. Attend all in service training and meetings.The selected candidate will be expected to uphold URecFit Core Values

Education: High School Diploma or GED
Other: Current lifeguard certification by a nationally recognized agency (American Red Cross, YMCA, etc.) First Aid, CPR, AED certification required. Complete a 100 yard untimed swim test, 2 minute treading and brick retrieval with 20 yard swim. Applicants must pass background check.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers, and spreadsheet software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation.
Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Current lifeguard certification including CPR, AED, and First Aid by a nationally recognized agency (American Red Cross, YMCA, etc.) or willingness to obtain.
Hiring Range:Hourly rate for this position is $16.00
