Status:    Non-Exempt-Regular Part-Time 

Salary:        $17.50 (Hourly)

Position Summary:
Lifeguard III will assist in planning, supervising and implementing activities in the Aquatic Department and may be required to lifeguard and teach. Attendance at all in-service trainings required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide on-deck shift oversight for daily operations of the aquatics facility including weekly programming as directed by the Aquatics Manager or on duty Coordinator.
• Provide assistance to swim instructors and team coaches during swim programming and practices to ensure a safe and customer friendly experience for participants and patrons.
• Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors and employees. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.
• Maintain order and cleanliness in all swimming areas, on deck and in water.
• Assist in training and instruction of recommended TSA Aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications. This training will lend to, but not be limited to, their ability to train and teach other lifeguards and TSA staff.
• Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
• Must monitor and assist aquatic staff with proper radio calls and emergency response.
• Conduct regular skill-based audits of lifeguard staff on a rotation so as to help ensure proper team response and preparedness.
• Assist, when asked by manager, with conducting in-service trainings when necessary.
• Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
• Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
• Maintain and review records and reports as assigned. Oversee that all incident reports are properly completed and filed with the Aquatic Manager.
• Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned, as well as performing cleaning as needed.
• Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.
• Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
• Ensure that safety protocols and aquatic standards are in place during shift assignments.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone. Must be able to communicate during uncomfortable situations to address concerns with a customer or staff member.
• See that Liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.
• Maintain a safe working environment. Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Aquatic Manager.
• Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
• Other aquatic assignments as required.

 

General Qualifications and Proficiencies:
• 18 years of age preferable.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate proficiently in English.
• Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
• Experience working with the public.
• Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members and customers. Ability to be self-motivated, work independently and in a team environment. Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
• Two years of experience as a lifeguard is preferred.
• One-year prior experience as a head lifeguard, or equivalency, highly desirable.
• Must have prior to start of employment unless otherwise noted and must maintain current certifications in the following:
o American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
o American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification within nine months of hire
o American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hire
o American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification to include AED
o American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification
o American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire
• CPO certification highly desirable.
• WSI certification highly desirable.
• Emergency Response or other advance first aid desirable.
• Must have excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
• Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as TSA.
• Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and TSA.
• Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.

 

Physical Requirements:
• Must maintain minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:
o 300-yard continuous swim
o Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands

• Position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance. Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck, and ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach and ability to use fingers and hands. Position may require operating equipment such as computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
• Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatic’s areas.
