PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with BVHS policies and procedures.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
Duty 2. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with BVHS policies, procedures.
Duty 3. Performs all lifeguard duties, including ability to lift people out of pool, perform CPR, scan pool to ensure safety of participants.
Duty 4: Performs all secondary duties in a timely manner as required for each shift.
Duty 5: Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and for the duration of the shift.
Duty 6: Ensures the pool is set-up for the established hours and follows all opening and closing procedures.
Duty 7: Responsible to ensure pool area is locked and secured prior to leaving at the end of assigned shift
Duty 8. Maintains a clean deck at all times that is free from trip hazards and ensures pool equipment is in the secured storage area.
Duty 9. Maintains accurate records as required by the state health department code.
Duty 10. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Ensures storage room is kept clean and equipment is stored properly.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Must be 16 years of age or older.
· American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent certification
· Must have CPR/AED, First Aid
· Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
· 18 years of age or older
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range.
