Our Buildings Specialty Lighting practice is expanding and looking for a Lighting Designer to join our growing team. Stantec's Lighting Design group offers talented professionals the opportunity to transform visions into designs that illuminate some of the most impressive buildings in the world. We are looking to add a lighting designer with 1 – 5 years of experience to our award-winning Lighting Design group. The candidate would be responsible for working on lighting designs, luminaire selection, lighting controls, energy code compliance and all aspects of lighting design and documentation. The preferred candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working collaboratively alongside other creative minds and problem solvers.
This position will be hybrid with at least 3-days per week in person at the Boston office.
Your Key Responsibilities
Project Involvement - approximately 95% of time. Develop lighting design solutions and collaborating with the design team. Produce lighting layouts and design documentation in Revit. Develop and analyze photometric calculations utilizing AGI32 or LightStanza software for verification of design intent. Implement energy code compliant designs and provide code compliance calculations. Lighting control intent, documentation and specifications. Develop presentation materials, renderings, graphic packages and written reports. Develop luminaire schedules and provide design appropriate product specification cut-sheets. Develop and review mock-ups and test sample luminaires to support design strategies. Attend and engage in project design meetings, as applicable. Apply basic technical skills and design documentation processes to produce accurate and timely deliverables. Collaborate across the practice to enhance our commitment to an integrated practice model and the value of design excellence. Develop lighting designs for a variety of project types including, but not limited to, commercial workplace, civic, educational, healthcare, multi-family residential, hospitality, cultural, aviation, and transportation. earning/Maintaining and Expanding Technical Skills – approximately 5% of time. Develop and maintain knowledge of technologies, integration platforms, and trends in the lighting market. Engage with vendors for hands-on learning of products and technologies for use in design and specification.Your Capabilities and Credentials
Motivated self-starter with can-do collaborative team approach to project work and assignments. Competent knowledge of and proficiency working in Revit. Able to apply best practices of appropriate content for lighting drawings (plans, elevations, sections and details). Strong understanding of interior architectural design principles and user experience in the built environment. Ability to research and present design options. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator Adobe type graphic tools. Familiarity with, and ability to produce, project-related documents, including sketches, graphic packages, and reports to appropriate standards. Knowledge of applicable codes and standards applicable to the industry. Familiarity with, and ability to apply, sustainable and human centric design principles within projects, including LEED and WELL Building Standard. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills for successful transdisciplinary collaboration. Strong organizational skills, in addition to an ability to manage one’s own time an prioritize tasks efficiently. Competent knowledge of photometric tools such as AGI32 or LightStanza, photometric toolbox, and IES files.Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related design field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 1 – 5 years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. The related experience shall be predominately in architectural lighting design. Preferred Auxiliary Qualifications IALD or IES membership and engagement. Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in MN, NYC/NY Min Pay Range: NYC $69,000/Outside NYC $55,200 Max Pay Range: NYC $100,900/Outside NYC $80,100 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
