Erecting transmission and distribution poles and guys for new lines, and mounting transformers. Installing equipment on crossarms, poles and transformer installations. 2. Erecting, removing, and maintaining transmission towers, substation structures and equipment. 3. Driving vehicle used by crews on transmission and distribution work, such as line or station construction and maintenance, and keep the vehicle supplied with required stock of material. 4. Operating winch, hydraulic boom, including extensions and bucket to place others in working position, auger and other auxiliary equipment; also hauling all types or trailers. 5. Operating equipment such as wire stringing rigs, small trenchers, plows and similar equipment for installation of overhead and underground lines on an irregular basis. 6. Replacing conductors, underground cables, poles, crossarms, insulators, transformers and associated materials and equipment on distribution and transmission lines, when de-energized; also does this work on energized secondary distribution lines, operating nominally under 600 volts. 7. Erect, remove or replace overhead and underground services. 8. Install, replace and maintain the underground cable transmission and distribution system. 9. Installing underground or overhead communications cable and associated equipment as required. 10. Transferring telephone, cable TV and other communications circuits as required. 11. Phasing out and paralleling lines or circuits nominally operating at voltages of 600 volts or less. 12. Installing and removing self-contained meters. 13. Trimming trees as required. 14. Instructing others in lower job classifications in their work, and on standard practices and procedures, as assigned. 15. Performing any of the duties of Groundperson, or similar or less skilled work as assigned. 16. Utilizing the Company's mobile radio and telephone communications system to receive and transmit information pertaining to the work operations. Once hired you will be reassigned to any of the following locations: + Colerain, OH + Erlanger, KY + Hamlet, OH + Little Miami, (Milford, OH) + Fairfield, OH + Todhunter, (Monroe, OH) + Queensgate, OH PAY The pay rate is $23.10 per hour (non-negotiable) BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Must meet the Company's requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS; and, in addition: 1. Must possess the necessary valid drivers license. 2. Must pass the examination for entrance into the grade of Lineperson "C" including questions or problems on the following: + Safety rules and procedures. + Identification of various types of materials and equipment. + Basic knowledge of construction drawings. + Knowledge of transmission and distribution line voltages and secondary voltages. 3. Must maintain current certification in first aid and CPR techniques. 4. Must possess tact, a suitable personality, and a clean, neat appearance for contact with the public. Desired Qualification + Certificate from Lineman’s Training School or currently enrolled + Certificate from Technical School Line program or currently enrolled + Military experience + Experience in the electric utility industry + Training and/or work experience with climbing different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) + Previous work experience or training working near power lines and electricity (residential, commercial, overhead lines, or underground lines) + Experience with responding to natural disasters or emergency situations (storm response such as hurricanes, tornado, wind event, high water; emergency responses such as fires, auto accidents, etc.) Working Conditions + Work schedule requires working various shifts as business needs arise + Position has on-call responsibilities as scheduled and generally available at other times as needed (24/7), demonstrate the ability to work independently, and to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends or holidays, and in all weather conditions to perform work required during planned and emergency outages + Requires ability to travel and stay overnight to various locations and work extended hours to assist in major storm restoration + Subject to confined spaces (manholes, vaults, etc.) Specific Requirements + Ability to successfully complete the Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers (VAL) + Please Read: Steps in Duke Energy’s Hiring Process Upon successfully submitting your application for this position, you will be invited to take the online test, the Modern Hire Virtual Assessment for Lineworker. You will have 72 hours to complete your assessment (online test) immediately following submission of your application . + Ability to successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT) + Ability to attend various training classes and successfully complete a Progression Assessment Qualification program (PAQ) + DOT Certification + DOT Physical + Ability to obtain Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) + Successful background and drug screen + This position has a residency requirement of thirty (30) road miles from your residence to the Company Headquarters located at Fourth & Main Streets, Cincinnati, Ohio. + Relocation is at the expense of the applicant. + This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading. You must maintain this weight restriction throughout your employment as a line worker. + Ability to stand a minimum of 5-6 hours; may be on ground, in a bucket on a line truck, or at the top of a distribution pole + Ability to sit for a minimum of 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting in a manhole or an underground vault + Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment + Ability to lift up to 76 pounds + Ability to push/pull weights up to 116 pounds + Ability to carry up to 90 pounds + Ability to frequently climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights and breadths + Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat + Ability to differentiate between colors (color vision) + Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, turn small knobs, etc. + Ability to obtain respirator clearance Travel Requirements 15-25% Relocation Assistance Provided (as applicable) No Represented/Union Position IBEW Local 1347 Visa Sponsored Position No Posting Expiration Date Wednesday, October 9, 2024 All job postings expire at 12:01 AM on the posting expiration date.
