General Description
Performs manual work involved in the securing and removing of ship's dock lines at Port Everglades.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsNo experience is required.

Special Certifications and LicensesRequires the ability to swim (successful candidate must pass a swim assessment).Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment. 
Preferences-2 years of experience in safely operating small commercial marine vessels.-2 years of experience handling lines to dock/undock vessels.-2 years of experience as a United States Navy, United States Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine seaman.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

- Dock and sail vessels.
- Clean the docks, trucks, office and berth.
- Tie down ships in berth and release ships from berth.
- Catch and throw heaving lines from ships docking.
- Drive and maintain line handling equipment.
- Pull and throw heaving lines from ships docking/sailing.
- Pull mooring lines down the dock and securing to bollards. Also, remove mooring lines from bollards.
- Perform related work as required
