The Linux Systems Engineer (Senior) is a subject matter expert with an in-depth knowledge of various Linux operating systems in medium to large organizations. This position requires technical expertise in installation and maintenance, evaluation and optimization, monitoring, customer service, and Security as referenced to DoD practices. The Linux Systems Engineer must also be able to work under intense pressure and varying situational environments to provide customers with highly available systems. Responsibilities Description: Provide daily application management tasks, to include, but not limited to, troubleshooting issues, deploying changes, and optimizing performance settings. Manage and maintain the installation and maintenance of the operating system and application server configurations on the Linux servers and additional equipment, if applicable, on all networks. Provides expert technical support for existing and expanding Linux servers, services, system upgrades, and equipment purchases to the customer. Manage system/server resources, including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability of Linux. Perform regular system maintenance in support of IAVA vulnerabilities and CCRI compliance. Collaborate with security teams to conduct regular assessments and address vulnerabilities. Create and track systems issues/requests using the ServiceNow ticketing system. Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for Linux configurations, system architectures, and troubleshooting procedures. Collaborate with all sections to identify product requirements ensuring timely delivery of compatible systems. Additional duties as assigned by leadership. Qualifications Education / Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferably in Computer Science or MIS, IS, Engineering or related field. This position requires candidates to adhere to DoD 8570.01-M. All candidates are required to maintain at least one (1) baseline certification and one (1) computing environment (CE) certification. The authorized certifications for this job title are listed as follows: IAT Level: IAT III Baseline: Cisco CCNP: Security (cannot be used as a dual qualifier) CompTIA CASP+ ce ISACA CISA ISC2 CISSP (or Associate) GIAC GCED GIAC GCIH Computing Environment: Red Hat Certified System Administration (RHCSA) Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) SUSE Certified Engineer (SCE) Oracle Linux 8 Advanced System Administration Experience: One-year related experience can be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required. One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for one year of experience up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree in a Software Engineering or Business Information Systems discipline for three years general experience. Minimum of ten years of experience in administrative, technical work, which demonstrated the ability and aptitudes, required to perform technical, managerial, or analytical work and coordination involving management information systems. The Linux Systems Engineer should have hands-on experience with Linux technologies in medium to large environments. Skills & Technology Used: Ability to verify that all systems under the direct control of RCC-SWA are properly configured in accordance with the NETCOM, RCC-SWA and DISA STIG configuration policies. Ability to manage asset documentation for accreditation and authorization. Ability to assess networking requirements and provide solutions. Ability to make accurate and independent decisions under pressure. Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously. Expert ability to troubleshoot infrastructure equipment. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
