Linux/Unix Server Analyst

The Technology and Global Security business unit is responsible for strategic planning, technology progression, and operational support of ATCO’s Linux/Unix Server environment. You will assist in the development of a technical roadmap for ATCO’s Linux/Unix Server environment, initiate and execute technology projects over time in alignment to the technical roadmap, and provide proactive and responsive support in alignment to ATCO security standards and policies. The role requires in-depth knowledge of the Linux/Unix Server platform as well as proven problem solving and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a delivery team comprised of server support, network support, storage support and security and disaster recovery teams.  This role will require participation in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation.

What You Get to Do:

Ongoing evaluation of ATCO’s current state Linux/Unix server technology including delivery, management and support technologies against evolving industry technology and best practices Working with business support resources and business units, maintain awareness of current and long-term business requirements for Linux/Unix Server technology and support.  Day to day operational support of the Linux/Unix Server environment including technology progression, break-fix support, patching, and participation in projects. Execution of changes including after hours and on weekends as required. Participating in on-call 24x7x365 support as part of a rotation with the delivery team. Leveraging awareness of industry best-of-breed technology, ATCO current state, and business requirements, assist in development and maintenance of a multi-year roadmap for the progression of Linux/Unix Server technology. Assist in development of multi-year execution roadmaps in collaboration with ATCO’s business support teams, solution architecture resources, senior Infrastructure Management resources and supplier partners; assist production of annual Linux/Unix Server technology plans including project roadmap and budget. Initiate and oversee execution of projects required to achieve the objectives of the annual technology plan. Stay current on industry trends, process improvement methodologies, and Linux/Unix Server best practices Develop and maintain relationships with service provider(s), suppliers, ATCO Technology stakeholders and business stakeholders and establish productive communication channels. Maintain strong working knowledge of ATCO’s overall infrastructure and application delivery and support needs to understand long-term and day-to-day operational requirements. Provide day-to-day execution of delivery and support of the Linux/Unix server environment in both on-prem and cloud platforms, participate in 24x7x365 on-call rotation. Participate in Incident Management as required to assist with diagnosis and remediation of Linux/Unix Server related issues. Prepare Root Cause Analyses and remediation approaches as part of Problem Management for Linux/Unix Servers.

Who You Are:

College degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field 7- 10 years of technical years of Linux/Unix Server support l experience and ITIL, MCSE certification is preferred Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse IT delivery teams including network, server, storage, backup/recovery and security. Experience implementing and maintaining Linux/Unix Server systems including configuring security, network and storage in alignment with best practices. Experience operating in ITIL environment in adherence to ITIL processes. Experience with CMDB including updating data and leveraging data for operational awareness, support and planning. A thorough understanding of current and past Linux/Unix Server operating systems levels, including installation, configuration, and maintenance. Demonstrated working time with server hardware, including installation, configuration, and maintenance in a controlled data center environment. Expert knowledge of LDAP protocol, including installation, configuration, and management. Working knowledge of VMWare including implementation, management, and support Ability to effectively program/script with Shell scripting, Perl, Python. Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to effectively and professionally communicate verbally and in writing. The ability to recognize technical and functional gaps and opportunities within the organization.
