Liquid Transload Operator

Job Summary: With reporting responsibilities to the Liquid Transload Manager or designee, this position is responsible for operating rail car moving vehicles; interpreting train orders, signals, and rules and regulations; transporting petroleum and plastic products; timely and correct switching and placement of rail cars; verifying proper alignment for product transfer between railcars and bulk trucks and other essential rail functions in a safety sensitive and production environment.   Essential Functions/Duties: + Effectively move and place railcars for product transfer from hopper/tank cars to bulk trucks + Verify tank car numbers with loading instructions to ensure accurate placement of cars by crew + Connect ground cable to carry off static electricity + Remove and replace or give directions to another worker to open and close man-way covers + Inspect tank car exterior for leaks or damage + Read meter to verify specified volume of liquids to be unloaded + Seal outlet valves on bottom and top of rail car + Connect hose to bottom outlet valves on cars when unloading cars + Start pumps or turn valves to admit compressed air into tank car and force liquids into storage tanks + Install vapor release valves + Test samples for specific gravity and record readings on unloading slip + Clean exterior of tank cars or tank trucks + Inspect safety valve, vacuum relief valve, rubber gaskets on valves and cover plates, and replaces defective parts + Clean and report spills as needed + Must wear personal protective equipment + Other duties as assigned Qualifications:  Required Education and Experience + Minimum education required is a high school diploma or equivalent Preferred Education and Experience  + Minimum 1 year of relevant transload or material handling experience preferred Physical Demands   + Must be able to perform physical labor such as; lifting up to 55 lbs., moving up to 250 pounds, climbing ladders, and working with hand tools + Must be able use fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear + Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, pull and push + Near vision for confirmation of finely printed documents, distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and or markings, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance. Licenses/Certificates:   + Able to safely operate a Powered Railcar Moving Equipment (e.g. Rail King) and must pass site Powered Railcar Moving Equipment certification Skills:   + Basic Math skills – ability to perform basic mathematical equations + Have mechanical, operational, and organizational skills + Ability to complete written documents and records + Excellent communication, written and grammatical skills in English (Spanish a plus) + Strong Safety awareness + Proven success with working in a team environment + Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously without constant supervision + Customer service oriented + Ability to think independently and make decisions that are in the company’s best interest + Excellent interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills + Ability to work independently and as part of team + Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact Additional Job Details: Supervisory Responsibility:  None Work Environment: + Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by the weather including rain, heat and cold temps; loud noise and fumes from gas, oil and grease + Working at heights using harnessed fall protection Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:  + Full time position with 8 hour shifts and a rotating schedule for 24-hour operation.
