Position Description

Liquids Terminal Operator

Responsible for the safe, efficient, and quality-conscious unloading and loading of liquid products to or from storage tanks, railcars, vessels, barges, and trucks. Assure the work being performed consistently meets or exceeds the expectations of the supervisor, as well as published policies and procedures.

Perform job functions as necessary to safely and efficiently transfer liquid products.

Job Functions include but not limited to:

Line-up movementsLoad and unload railcars, tank trucks, ships, and bargesSample and gauge product in tanksObtain and record product temperatures and levels in storage tanksPerform all work in strict accordance with Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and proceduresPerform all work in strict accordance with operating policies, procedures, checklists and written instructions.Climb tank stairs and railcar stairs, operate valves and pumps, gauge tanksUpkeep of assigned equipment or tools.Perform any other type of terminal function as trained and as instructed by the supervisor.Open and close 2" to 12" valves by handAscend and descend ladders and stairs to perform various operations dutiesPerform miscellaneous clean-up activities, e.g. collect trash, empty barrels, sweep, mop floors, etc

Must be willing to work overtime as neededWilling to work non-traditional hoursMust be willing to report to shift with minimal noticeMust be able to effectively communicate verballyMust be able to accept supervision/direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other peopleBasic math skills required.Must have the ability to work in all types of conditions, including but not limited to working in the rail yard, working on railcarsBasic competency using Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:

Must be able to climb up and down rail cars to a height of up to 20 feetMust meet physical requirements, including, but not limited to: consistently lifting / carrying and pulling / pushing weights / forces up to 60 pounds / routinely gripping forces of up to 80 poundsRoutine walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and squatting, climbing up / down ladders and stairs, standing, sitting and negotiating uneven and moving surfacesMust be able to stand for extended periods of timeRegularly exposed to outside in adverse weather conditionsMust be willing to work outdoorsPreferred Experience, Competencies, Skills and AbilitiesEducation in technical crafts or work experience in job duties described above-preferredHazmat, liquid tank farm operations, and/or rail yard operation experienceKnowledge of Liquid Transfer Operations
