Bilingual Literacy Specialist (Per Diem)
The primary role of the bilingual literacy specialist is to deliver literacy based professional learning to teachers and leaders across the region.
Essential Job Responsibilities/Primary Activities:
Facilitate professional learning using adult learning methodologies to support best practices in Balanced Literacy instructionDeliver (in English or Spanish) in-person and virtual professional learning and coach classroom teachers and coaches on balanced literacy practices and instructional strategiesSupport classroom teachers in building content knowledge and understanding their role in the implementation processProvide reflection questions and suggestions as part of the coaching cycleMaintain highest degree of expertise in literacy instruction and Scholastic product knowledgeCollaborate with AEs and PLS RDs to help expand professional learning opportunitiesMaintain streamlined communication with the sales team to alert them of all activities related to the district (s) they are servingResolve and provide solutions on issues that arise during the engagement periodCommunicate regularly with PLS Regional Directors and the AE about the ongoing professional learning needs of the districtCommunicate regularly with the aligned Regional Directors about the ongoing professional learning needs of districtsMaintain professional relationships with districtsCultivate and maintain relationships with team and partnersLiteracy specialist reports to the Regional Director of Professional LearningQualificationsHOW YOU CAN FIT
Requirements
Experience in balanced literacyMaster's Degree in education or reading related field preferredExperience facilitating professional learning in literacy and/or reading preferredMinimum of 3 to 5 years teaching/coaching experience Fluent in both Spanish and EnglishAbility to maintain a travel scheduleExcellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Power PointExperience using Zoom and/or Google MeetsExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skillsFacilitation skills, professionalism and creativityValid driver’s licenseCurrent knowledge of college and career readiness standardsKnowledge of the human change process and adult learning theoriesTime Type:Part timeJob Type:RegularJob Family Group:Education SalesLocation Region/State:New YorkEEO Statement:Scholastic is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
