Lithium Manufacturing Engineer

Job Purpose

As a Lithium Manufacturing Engineer at our Lithium Gigafactory, you will play a key role in the research, design, and development of lithium-ion cells, working closely with cross-functional teams to enhance cell performance, safety, and cost efficiency. This is an entry-level position ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a background in engineering and a passion for advancing energy storage technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Development:
Conduct research to identify and test new materials, technologies, and processes aimed at improving lithium-ion cell performance and manufacturing efficiency.
Assist in the development of innovative approaches to cell design using modeling and simulation tools.
Testing and Evaluation:
Support the design and development of lithium-ion cells, including electro-chemical composition, architecture, and performance evaluations.
Provide technical input on cell components and ensure designs meet performance and safety requirements.
Collaboration:
Work closely with chemists, materials engineers, mechanical engineers, and other team members to ensure successful cell development and optimization.
Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and testing departments to refine and optimize lithium-ion cell manufacturing processes.
Documentation and Reporting:
Assist in preparing technical reports, design specifications, drawings, and test plans to document research, development, and testing activities.
Quality Assurance:
Support the development and implementation of quality control measures to ensure lithium-ion cells meet industry standards and internal performance metrics.
Work with the quality assurance team to identify and resolve any production or performance issues.
Continuous Improvement:
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product reliability, performance, and manufacturing processes.
 

Travel Requirements

The travel expectations for this role are 50% for the first year of employment and 25% after year one on an ongoing basis. You must have the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent). Internship or project-based experience in lithium-ion cell development, energy storage, or related fields is a plus. Familiarity with cell chemistry, electrode design, and assembly processes is advantageous. Basic understanding of process engineering and manufacturing techniques. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
