**Position Overview**
The role of BIT (Broadcast IT) Field Engineer is responsible for planning and executing the engineering aspects for projects, live productions, and remote operations, as assigned to Global Field Engineering by our News and Sports clients. The role will occasionally be responsible for developing technology plans, organizing resources, providing technical oversight and guidance to staff, and ensuring appropriate technical approaches are implemented on remote operations.
This position is suitable for a qualified and experienced Broadcast Engineer, who will apply their technical skills in supporting Sports and News production operations in the field. The post will be based on a nominal 40 hour /5-day week, although actual working hours and shifts may vary considerably, depending on location and production requirements.
**Position Responsibilities**
+ Provide timely and professional support in a fast-paced 24x7x365 Newsgathering or Sports remote production environment. Individuals in this job must demonstrate the high-level skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to meet the full range of broadcast production field engineering responsibilities.
+ Personal travel and equipment logistics arrangements for remote deployments, both local and international are required, sometimes with short notice. Also, the ability to physically lift and move equipment cases weighing up to 32Kg is necessary.
+ Setting up/rigging in the field and then operating IP/Fibre/Satellite TV contribution systems, video/audio routing, technical quality control, remote/local production communications and related systems . Performing general hardware and software support for computing equipment such as laptops, printers, and connectivity equipment on site.
+ Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems and the ability to work independently and autonomously in a team-based environment is vital.
+ Participation in event coverage planning; technical systems design; installation and systems integration projects with complex leading-edge Broadcast technology in an increasingly IP and IT centric environment. This includes server and cloud-based systems, data networking (e.g., routers, switches) and other related equipment.
+ Ongoing maintenance and repair of our field-team based remote broadcast equipment and vehicles, when working in base.
+ Demonstrated competency in a wide variety of technology and business contexts.
**Qualifications / Experience**
+ Technical degree, preferably electronics (or equivalent education/experience/training)
+ Typically, 4 or more years of experience in television broadcast operations, including rigging, operations, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of broadcast production equipment, IT systems, RF/satellite transmission systems, and studio systems; IP/ASI streaming systems, file ingest systems and quality control.
+ UK driving licence, ideally with C1 class for driving a 5.5T Van.
+ Practical appreciation and experience of Health and safety requirements for field operations and Hostile environments – training certificates are helpful for demonstrating this.
+ Strong operational skills on a broad range of television remote broadcast and production equipment such as: SNG, satellite and IP broadcast contribution systems, audio and video encoding/decoding devices, ENG/Studio cameras and support equipment, fiber optic links, A/V routers and infrastructure “glue” devices, video switchers, audio mixers, media decks, NLE edit systems and storage devices, signal processing and transcoding devices, TV production intercom, personal computer systems and IT networking equipment. Training course certificates are helpful for demonstrating this.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of computer and data networking hardware, diagnostic and support applications, to ensure broad technical support in the field.
+ Experienced problem solver who can perform well in a fast-paced environment.
+ Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations as frequently encountered in field remote environments.
+ Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal, written) required.
+ Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Visio, etc.) Knowledge of Apple computers, mobile devices and related applications.
Onsite Working - This role is advertised as Onsite, meaning all working hours and days (regardless of shift pattern) will be carried out at the place of work. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement, where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
