What’s the role

Shell LNG Marketing & Trading (SLMT) is the global leader in LNG trading, with the Commercial Operator positioned within the operations arm of Shell Trading. Shell’s LNG Operations is the largest in the industry, spanning supply projects in both the Atlantic and Asia-Pacific basins, and serving customers across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. This high-value trade is rapidly evolving, with a dynamic mix of long- and short-term contracts.

Commercial LNG Operations provides essential commercial, logistical, and administrative support to Shell Trading. They ensure the timely execution of freight and commercial transactions, meeting all obligations from LNG contracts and Time Charter Parties (TCP). The team collaborates closely with Traders to maximize value through economic and optimization strategies, minimizing profit leakage from the flexibility and optionality in LNG contracts and supply programs. They are also involved in developing new projects and contracts. Due to the nature of physical trading operations, working outside regular office hours is often required.

The LNG operations team is responsible on a day to day basis to be able to operate LNG ships under SLMT’s responsibility working closely with the chartering team, implement and execute commercial deals and review standard LNG contracts.

What you’ll be doing

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Compliance: Ensure compliance to Shell Code of Conduct, Ethics. Demonstrate leadership and commitment to Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE), addressing hazards and risks within the team and with external partners.Contractual Understanding and Execution: Possess clear understanding of contractual terms, fulfil all obligations and comply with necessary requirements.Ensure that all commercial and operational obligations/nominations arising from the contracts are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with.Account Management: Manage shipping owner accounts, external stakeholders, counterparties to handle operational issues, review costs, and manage disputes. Foster relationships with external counterparties to improve operational efficiency beyond contractual obligations.Performance monitoring: Play an active role in voyage economics, planning and optimization, monitoring vessel performance and kick-starting vessel performance efficiency related conversations timely. Engage in highly complicated contract mechanisms for reconciliations involving large datasets to be completed in a timely fashion.External Relationships: Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and service providers. Deal with cargo/freight counterparties and terminals on a regular basis regarding all pre and post deal activities.Commercial Mindset and Collaboration: Multi-task on priorities and think on your feet to deal with contractual problems ensuring that they are managed professionally and optimally for the trading business. Ensure clear communications to internal stakeholders, challenge decision-making when needed.Data Management: Ensure timely and accurate update of all operational information into trading systems.Efficiency and Synergy Initiatives: Support initiatives and digitalization efforts to improve commercial operations efficiency. Identify synergies with other Shell Trading businesses for process improvement.Digital Competencies: Competency and digital literacy will be required. Operator is expected keep up with systems reporting requirements and be equipped with basic skills of data analysis to keep up with SLMT digitalization vision.Team Coaching: Coach and support team members in the Operations organization.KPI Delivery: Achieve and deliver to relevant SLMT and Operations KPIs.Global Trading Mindset: Understand global contractual constraints, collaborate with regional teams. Respond flexibly to requests outside normal office hours, 24/7 support expected.

Integrate a commercial mindset with essential HSSE elements to achieve balanced objectives.Strong grasp of international trade, maritime transportation, and commodity markets.Deep understanding of value drivers in LNG trading and operations, combined with a proven commercial mindset validated by stakeholders.Ability to identify risk and opportunity in complex operational circumstances.Utilize functional support to provide high-quality options and opinions to commercial stakeholders, solving complex operational challenges.Identify opportunities and manage operational and commercial risks in LNG Cargo and LNG Freight agreements, with a successful track record of implementing changes to mitigate risks or enhance optionality.Analyse business challenges and develop digital solutions using innovative technologies (e.g., Power BI, Power Query, Alteryx) for data analytics to inform decision-making.Demonstrated continuous improvement, identifying, and implementing solutions to eliminate complexity and waste in processes.

Experience in commercial operations (preferably LNG) or sailing experience will be a strong advantage. A key criterion is to be able to operate within a non-standard environment where the counterparty requires and expects considerable support and at the same time be able to gently introduce standardization and efficiency.

A high level of fluency in the English language, both written and spoken is required.
