POSITION DESCRIPTION: The role a complex manager trainee will encompass all management areas of a Rose Acre complex. Overall, the trainee will shadow and train alongside current complex managers and fill in for complex managers once the training level has reached a satisfactory point. As most trainees will already have a solid background in one complex area, the trainee may spend less time in this area during the overall complex training unless complex needs require the trainee to fill in. Although the goal of the training period is to follow a structure that allows the trainee to experience the many challenges of managing a complex, complex needs may dictate that the trainee remain in one area for set period of time should the complex manager be short in experienced crew leaders in that area. The trainee will spend enough time in each area to achieve a level of competency that allows him or her to handle the department should the current complex manager be absent. All duties are to be performed in an exemplary and professional manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for shadowing the current complex manager for management of layer production, shell egg processing, and/or liquid egg breaking facility (as applicable) operations and addressing areas where the trainee feels more time is needed with the complex manager training committee chair. Responsible for shadowing and becoming familiar with all regulatory compliance standards, including SQF, USDA/FDA, OSHA, and all environmental regulations. (List may be expanded as new regulations arise.)Responsible for understanding and learning how to train crewmembers with regard to all GMPs, lockout/tag out, and Hazcom procedures and implementation.Responsible for understanding how to address issues that arise regarding egg graders, houses, coolers, feed mill, breaker plants that cannot be addresses by lower level managers.Responsible for learning how to read and prepare accurate record keeping for layer flock and processing operations.Responsible for learning how to follow Rose Acre Farms budget reports, work with areas that need improving, and how to communicate results to mid-level farm managers.Responsible for learning all areas of personnel management, including hiring and interviews, evaluations, employee grievances, and Rose Acre Farms procedures for transfers, personal leaves, etc.Responsible for understanding the role the feed mill and nutrition department at the main office play in managing a complex, how to read the information, and how to address issues that arise in these areas.Responsible for various projects as assigned by the complex manager.Responsible for learning various poultry and inventory tracking software systems.Responsible for various projects as directed by a Vice President.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
High school diploma is required. Collegiate level training in agriculture science, management, chemistry, biology or poultry science is desired.Previous experience in egg/poultry processing or an agricultural field is desired.Previous management experience is desired.Capable of working long hours if needed to complete special projects and complex needs.Must be available for moderate travel between farms and farms in other states during the training period.Capable of working weekend shifts and maintaining a flexible schedule.Possess excellent teamwork and employee management skills – must be willing to assist with other personnel issues as needed by the complex manager.Ability to handle multiple tasks at once – the ability to deal with stressful situations and still get the job complete.Ability to treat co-workers and managers with respect and courtesy.Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment Must have previous computer experience or possess the ability to learn computer programs – namely relevant Microsoft programs such as MS Excel.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.
