Loan Officer, Credit Union
Job Description The Loan Officer at the Vanderbilt Credit Union plays a critical role in fostering strong relationships with members by providing tailored financial solutions through the credit union's diverse range of products and services. Operating in full compliance with all credit union policies, procedures, and federal and state regulations, the loan officer is responsible for interviewing and thoroughly evaluating applicants for routine loans. This includes gathering background information, analyzing credit histories, and conducting comprehensive assessments of loan applications. Additionally, loan officers are responsible for making informed decisions and ensuring the highest level of member satisfaction. Duties and Responsibilities Loan Production (40%) + Assess customer needs, explore all options and introduce different types of loans + Develop referral networks, suggest alternate channels and cross-sell products and services to accomplish quotas. + Go the “extra mile” to build trust relationships, customer loyalty and satisfaction throughout the underwriting process. + Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing loan applicants and obtaining credit bureau reports. + Underwrite the loan request for completeness and accuracy. + Lend money within the loan policy. + Determine collateral needs and payment plans for members applying for loans. + Cross ‐ sell lending and other credit union products + Respond to loan applications, approvals, and questions in a timely manner + When a loan is denied, explain reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner. Work with member to provide recommendations or alternative options for other possible ways to meet their needs. Loan Operations (40%) + Οperate in compliance with laws and regulations and adhere to lending compliance guidelines + Update job knowledge on types of loans and other financial services. + Maintain and update account records + Verify the accuracy of loan amounts and repayment terms on approved loan applications. + . + Complete loan documents and disburse loans when approved. + Implement new loan products and services in accordance with management direction. + Collect past due loans. + Maintain proper loan documentation and collateral positions. + Complete loan reports (incentive, expenses, and payment of vendors) in a timely manner. Member Service (10%) + Knowledge of basic deposit opening. + Assist members in person as needed. + Provide back up support to deposits, teller, and/or operations as assigned. + Assist the President on resolving complex member complaints. Administrative (10%) + Provide mentoring and coaching to support and develop staff. + Provide other job duties as assigned by the President. Supervisory Relationships This position reports directly to the President & CEO of the Vanderbilt Credit Union and has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications + High School Degree or equivalent. + 3-5 years of experience in credit/lending at a bank, credit union, or finance company. + Direct retail experience desired. + Knowledge of the fundamentals of credit, lending concepts and practices. + Understands and complies with all annual mandated training that pertains to the position, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering/OFAC/Cybersecurity/Diversity & Anti-Harassment/Fair Lending. + Attention to Detail – Ensuring that information collected, provided, and/or evaluated is consistent with all related information available; holding to regulatory standards, recognizing that they exist to protect and honor members’ financial well-being.
