Job Summary: The Locomotive Mechanic III is an entry-level mechanic position responsible for assisting in overhauling and maintaining steam and diesel locomotives The Details: Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Wage: $27.00 an hour Schedule:4 day 10 hour work week ( Monday - Thursday) ( Off Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Responsibilities Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values. Disassemble motors and clean parts. Obtain parts from stock and provide them to mechanic in charge. Assist in reassembly. Assists in the daily and periodic locomotive and diesel inspections in compliance with Company, Industry, and Federal standards. Assists in the inspection of various mechanical systems (air brake, fuel, lubrication) and locomotive components (wheels, trucks, cab, and internal diesel engine parts). Assists in the repairing of locomotive parts, engine blocks, truck frames, requiring use of power and hand tools. Assists in diagnosing basic malfunctions in diesel engine components and other components; assess nature of problem, suggest needed corrective action. Assists in performing daily and periodic locomotive servicing, such as: grease joints and fittings, change oil and air filters, adjust brake cylinder piston travel. Understands and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Cleans tools in work area. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Strong mechanical aptitude. Must possess a valid/clear Arizona Driver’s License and comply with Xanterra/GCR Vehicle/Equipment Policy. Preferred Qualifications: Previous work experience as a diesel mechanic is a plus. Previous experience as a Diesel or Train Mechanic in a railroad industry is a plus. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, and speaking and lifting/carrying 10lbs or less. Frequently standing, walking, handling, reaching outward, reaching above shoulder, climbing, crawling, squatting/kneeling, bending/stooping lifting/carrying up to 20lbs, Twisting, using eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity, using wrist motion, and ascending and descending ladder. Occasionally sitting, lifting/carrying up to 100lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 100lbs. Will be required to stand and walk for long periods of time on cement floors and to occasionally walk on uneven surfaces and onboard moving equipment. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
