Your Impact
Serve under the direction of Lead Generator Mechanic III to operate and maintain power plant/spot power generators & equipmentPromote and maintain safety following established safe work practices and proceduresReport to the Lead Generator Mechanic III on all special occurrences such as emergency outages and corrective actions taken to maintain service. Anticipate unscheduled load changes, and detect early indications of power generating equipment malfunctions in order to maintain continuous serviceTroubleshoot and make comparable low/entry through medium/intermediate level repairs to Gensets, powered support systems, vehicles, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical components)Responsible for performing hourly, daily, weekly, monthly generator checks in Power Plant/Spot Generation environmentResponsible for performing generator services IAW manufactures recommendations—250hour, 500hour, etcAssist Lead Generator Mechanic III with rebuild and/or overhaul-to include top end, in frame and complete—Gensets, powered support systems, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, hydraulic, pneumatic and 12/24vdc electrical componentsAssist in the control and distribution of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic componentsTroubleshoot and repair diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines (e.g., PMCS, break down repairs, and periodic maintenance on those of 3 to 16 cylinders and up to 2MW of power)When power production malfunctions occur and to ensure personnel and equipment safety, assist to isolate generator/s and bypass fault in order to maintain service or take actions to shed low priority loads when full service cannot be maintainedEnsure correct testing and isolation procedures are followed before working on de-energized High Voltage Networks or SwitchgearExecute the company’s policy and procedure for proper and efficient operation of the power plants and distribution network to support LOGCAP VPerforms other duties as directed by the SupervisorAdditional Duties and Responsibilities
When workload/mission/staffing levels dictate, assist with daily Power Plant or Spot Gen operations to include bring online/offline gensets, synchronizing/paralleling gensets, taking hourly generator readings, fueling in power plant environment, electrical distribution installation/maintenance, facility maintenance, housekeeping, etcWhen workload/mission/staffing levels dictate, assist with MV/LV electrical/Power Plant operations teams with installation/removal of electrical distribution equipmentFill in required genset service/periodic maintenance/repair documents/reports and turn over to Lead Generator Mechanic IIIEnsure required documentation/reporting is submitted in a timely mannerRequest/retrieve service/maintenance/repair parts/components from Prime Contractor Consolidated Material Warehouse and transport to genset/powerplant service/repair locationAttend daily Safety meetings/stand downs IAW with VGS and Prime contractor policiesTake ownership of equipment/tasks/duties assigned to ensure repairs, maintenance, overhauls, etc. are performed with utmost of quality/safety in mind and IAW manufactures recommendationsWillingness to attend formal OEM specific genset and/or controls trainingEnsure less experienced members of power gen mechanic team are performing services/minor repairs to high quality standards and IAW manufactures recommendationsEnsure power generator staff are performing service/maintenance/repair duties IAW US Military, Prime Contractor, Host Nation and VGS Environmental/Hazmat policies and proceduresAttend VGS EHS (Electrical Health & Safety) training and establish a status of CP (Competent Person), AP (Authorized Person) or SAP (Senior Authorized Person)Operate/perform within the behavioral guidelines/policies/procedures put forth by USG, US Military Command, Host Nation, Prime Contractor and VGSWho You Are
Required Qualifications
Must be CAC eligibleOEM Certification or equivalent experienceExperience in medium to large scale operation and maintenance of prime power diesel gensets (50-60 liter engines)Experience in maintenance, repair, operation and troubleshooting of genset systems (fuel, induction, cooling, controls, exhaust, engine internal & peripheral) of gen sets ranging from 15Kw to 3MwExperience using all types hand and power tools, shop equipment such as hydraulic presses, drill presses, hydraulic, electric or pneumatic lifting devices, etc.Experience using all types of measuring devices such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, dial bore gauges, etc.Experienced in working with other technical staffAbility to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides covering the complete assembly, troubleshooting, and layout of powered support systemsExperienced working in international work environments with expatriate or US militaryA thorough knowledge of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components including: Standard Diesel generators, Controls to include genset synchronizing and paralleling, genset communication/monitoring systems such as Pulse Scada and SwitchgearProactive nature and strong interpersonal skills in collaborating, communicating and working with (1) Senior managers and staff (to include Site management team), (2) Local and International subcontractors; (3) US Military representatives; and (4) Local officials as requiredMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximumSuccessful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screenComply with Company Drug and Alcohol PolicyPreferred Qualifications

Decisions made are covered by specific, well-established work methods and proceduresIn the event problems arise, mechanics at this level are able take corrective action in accordance with instructions or notify their supervisorExperience in providing prime power O&M Services to clientsGood clear communication skillsHands on inspect, test, and repair components of electrical systems to include generators, transformers, transfer switches, switch gear, PLC controls, and fuel monitoring and delivery systemsEducation: A high school diploma or GED plus related technical trainingValid drivers’ license from home of recordValid US Passport with no less than 6 months to expiration and 6 blank pagesKnowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards for electrical and mechanical trades, related safety practices, and skill required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generator systems and equipmentBasic knowledge and trained with current certification of First Aid & CPRMust rescue an injured victim from an electrical conductorMust know Lockout/Tagout ProceduresAbility to read, comprehend/understand and apply information contained in manufacturer equipment manuals, facility document including drawings and specification, operation and maintenance manuals, standard operating and emergency response procedures, material safety data sheets, etc.Ability to interpret and apply required corrective action with data readings and results of equipment checks to identify equipment or process problems and take appropriate responses to correct or resolve problemsSpecific understanding and knowledge of power generation equipment startup and shut down and basic equipment maintenance procedures as they relate to the power generation equipment and/or auxiliary operatorMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors. Duties will involve work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to tropical climatic conditions including frequent rainstorms, high humidity and temperatures up to 95F degrees in the summer monthsMust be able to work overhead with arms raised for extended periodsScheduled work hours up to 72 hours per week
