What does taking part in the Collins Aerospace Logistics Apprentice involve? 

Aimed at highly motivated and ambitious individuals, eager to be a part of a world leader within the aerospace and defence industry. This scheme is geared towards supporting the career development of apprentices who wish to play an instrumental role in project management of the next generation of civil and military aircraft. 

The role is based at Wolverhampton, and home of Actuation Systems at Collins Aerospace. Actuation Systems are the leading experts in fly-by-wire, hydraulic and electro-hydraulic actuation design, Collins Aerospace offers a complete line of actuation products that enhance aircraft performance and reduce pilot workload. 

We are looking to recruit a high calibre apprentice who can support Actuation Systems with the modernisation of logistic and SIOP processes. We have numerous exciting projects in all areas of the business many demanding new solution and application integration.

A Logistics Apprentice within the Collins business leads from the front, living and driving our core values of Engaged, Empowered and Accountable - always.  

You will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with the central SIOP and Logistics teams, suppliers, and value streams.  This will include activities such as: 

Supporting the daily material delivery, liaising with production planning, and alignment with internal suppliers to ensure smooth operations and resolve supply chain issues. 

Optimize material flow, manage transportation, resolve bottlenecks, and balance goods receiving, shipping, and warehouse space, all while prioritizing health and safety. 

Lead projects from initiation to deployment, ensuring they meet scope, quality, and time objectives, and report progress to senior executives. 

Monitor key metrics, staffing, and manage stock takes and transfer projects with 3PL, while addressing any issues to ensure timely project completion. 

With time, lead Tier 1 meetings, feeding into Tier 2 meetings conduct Gemba walks, and oversee training, safety compliance, and replenishment system to ensure continuous improvement. 

The successful candidate will be an expert communicator, with natural drive for curiosity and autonomy. They will also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, have excellent organisational skills, and be able to manage their own projects.

The apprenticeship programme lasts for a period of 2 years and is a partnership between Collins Aerospace and BPP. You will learn key project management principles with BPP which will be vital to your development at Collins Aerospace such as:

By the end of the programme, having completed your functional training and the apprenticeship, you will be awarded Level 4 Associate Project Manager and have the opportunity to progress onto globally-recognised standards such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner, or APMG AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner. 

What are we looking for? 

We are looking for the best individuals who have the following attributes: 

Minimum of 3 A Levels at CCC or above, or equivalent BTECs  

Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/5 or above including Mathematics and English 

Be a UK resident living in the UK for a minimum of 3 years 

Effective communicator – written and verbal 

Good personal management and self-organisation skills 

Good analytical skills and problem solving
