Logistics Coordinator

Covia located in Independence, OH has an immediate opening for a Logistics Coordinator. The Logistics Coordinator will assist in efficiently managing both truck and rail logistics for Covia production facilities. This is accomplished by developing, organizing, and maintaining trucking and rail company contacts and utilizing those contacts to arrange freight and resolve issues as necessary. This role will also work with our rail fleet team to manage empty railcar supply for production facilities.  

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

 

 

Identify reliable truck carriers for company plants and terminals Maintain a database of carriers that can be utilized for customers normally served by rail (i.e. for when rail service falters) Negotiate favorable rates with truck carriers Work with the Supply Chain and the Customer Service departments to manage trucks around production and delivery schedules to maximize customer satisfaction while minimizing detention Manage empty railcar pipelines for multiple plants. Communicate regularly with Supply Chain and Operations teams to adjust car supply as demand and production schedules change Track loaded railcar pipelines and intercede with railroads as necessary Establish trucking KPI’s and provide trucking reports as requested Establish rail related KPI’s and provide monthly Provide trucking cost analyses Participation in weekly conference calls representing Logistics & Supply Chain Maintain close working relationship with Customer Service, Sales, and Operations teams Review and approve both rail and truck charges related to demurrage/detention/accessorial Other duties as assigned

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; a focus in logistics or supply chain preferred 2-4 years’ experience in supply chain or logistics is preferred, especially in bulk commodities by rail Prior hands-on experience with railroads, railcars, bulk trucks preferred Prior hands-on negotiation of truck rates and sourcing of quality carriers preferred Experience tendering multi-lane requests for proposal (RFP) or carrier consolidation projects preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-motivated, and self-starter Must be a team player with strong team-building skills Great organizational skills and detail oriented Ability to manage multiple functions at one time in a fast-paced environment Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders a plus Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, highly proficient in MS Excel Experience working in TMS and ERP systems Capability to build dashboards in MS PowerBI a plus Able to work extended hours on occasion when necessary Judgment and critical thinking skills Ability to analyze and solve problems Travel requirement 10-15%
