Job Description
PURPOSE Provide personalized learning that supports each student in achieving his or her potential. Engages in professional growth and fulfills professional responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible, regularly available and eager to substitute teach in the classroom. This position is not eligible for benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Ability to provide effective instruction to meet student needs relative to district
benchmarks and standards.
2. Knowledge of “best practice” in teaching.
3. Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of students at the designated grade
level.
4. Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
5. Knowledge of the Iowa Teaching Standards
6. Knowledge of special education and section 504
7. Knowledge of Federal Rights and Privacy Act and other civil rights regulation
8. Ability to organize and think clearly while communicating, organizing and evaluating.
B. Education
1. Earned bachelor’s degree in Education or Board of Educational Examiners approved alternative.
C. Certification/Licensure
Appropriate Iowa BOEE licensure (please attach your teaching license with application)
D. Background Check
1. A criminal background check and a child & adult abuse check will be conducted on candidates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates effective implementation of the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria as a substitute in Urbandale classrooms.
2. Demonstrates the ability to enhance academic performance in the classroom.
3. Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the substitute teaching position.
4. Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students.
5. Knowledge and application of effective classroom management strategies
6. Understanding/application of continuous improvement mindset.
7. Demonstrated experience exhibiting the Actions of Excellence within UCSD
8. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
- None
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory health as certified by a competent medical authority upon hire.
- Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement.
- Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking.
- Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working.
- Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting.
- Occasional meetings outside the school day.
- Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergencies.
