Our Loss Prevention Engineer ensures McCain’s global assets, operations and reputation are safeguarded by applying loss prevention engineering standards and principles across the McCain network. 

 

You will review all material capital projects against McCain fire protection and loss prevention specifications and maintain the upkeep of those standards to ensure they continue to meet acceptable technical standards and needs of the business, and our insurers. 

 

Loss Prevention Engineer will also support the continuous improvement and development of site risk improvement plans. They will act as an effective and constant advocate for loss prevention best practices across the business. This will require site visits to verify implementation, troubleshoot, etc. and to collaborate with McCain’s insurers and brokers, site leadership, project and engineering teams, equipment manufacturers, consultants and contractors. 

 

Risk Improvement 
•    Coordinate insurer and broker site visits, ensuring consistent application of loss prevention standards (internal standard, FM Global datasheets, NFPA, etc.). 
•    Develop site specific risk improvement plans and engage with site leadership, regional engineering and finance teams to evaluate business cases for risk improvement investments. 
•    Evaluate and mitigate risks related to natural hazards (wind, flood, earthquakes) and critical process equipment (fryers, freezers, ammonia systems, boilers & pressure vessels).
•    Provide input into engineering standards and human element programs, balancing loss prevention needs and business/operational demands. 
•    Investigate fire, smoke and property damage incidents to assist in determining root cause and continuous improvement to policies and practices. 
•    Develop and maintain partnerships with global and regional engineering, supply chain, agriculture, sustainability, safety and others to promote risk aware decision making; provide targeted training as necessary. 

 

Project Execution 
•    Monitor all material capital projects to ensure “highly protected risk” (HPR) standards are achieved. 
•    Conduct fire protection and loss prevention design reviews, commissioning services, and compliance verification with McCain specifications. 
•    Conduct design review for loss prevention plans related to roofing and structural work, building material specifications, fire protection systems, ammonia systems and process freezers, thermal oil systems, steam boilers, fryers, energy recovery systems, fuel fired equipment and storage tanks, electrical systems (transformers, switchgear, etc.), storage and conveyance systems. 
•    Apply fundamental fire and life safety engineering principles to create performance-based solutions to design challenges that are not addressed by the straightforward application of existing fire protection codes and standards. 

 

Qualifications:

•    Degree in Engineering or a related discipline. 
•    Minimum two years of experience in loss prevention, project management or manufacturing engineering roles. 
•    Strong technical aptitude, with diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Experience with fire protection system design, including hydraulic calculations, is considered an asset. 
•    Self-starter, with a high level of initiative and resourcefulness and efficient time management ability; able to manage varying workloads and competing priorities.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
•    Physical ability to conduct site inspections, including climbing ladders and lifting moderate loads.
•    Proficiency in MS Office; additional language skills (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin) are advantageous.
•    Willingness to travel globally (approximately 25-30%).

Compensation Package: $70,000.00 - $101,100.00 CAD annually + bonus eligibility + Long Term Incentive eligibility

 

The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
