The LPN, School Nurse specializes in the practice of school based nursing to advance the wellness, academic success, and personal achievement of students. As part of Med Center Health's School Based Health Clinics (SBHC), the School Nurse leads the provision of health services by providing care to students, provides health screenings and referrals for health conditions, and intervenes with potential health programs. Facilitates positive student engagement and well-being and promotes health and safety. Actively collaborates with other professionals and serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers.
Minimum Qualifications Work ExperienceOne year of nursing experience in a clinical setting required.
Pediatric experience strongly preferred.Education
Completion of a Licensed Practice Nurse Program required.
Current enrollment in an ADN or BSN program preferred.
Certifications/Licensure
Kentucky LPN license (OR) LPN license in a state recognized by the Kentucky Nurse Licensure Compact Act.

Serves as a health and wellness consultant to other school professionals such food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, and counselors. Provides health advice to school education teams and actively participates in school safety plans. Oversees medication administration, infection control, and other health care procedures. Coordinates and performs vision, hearing, body mass index, and mental health screenings. Develops plans for student care based on assessment, intervention, and identification of outcomes and the evaluation of care. Assists students and families with locating outside care as needed. Monitors immunizations, management of communicable diseases, and assess the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety. Ensures that SBHC policies and procedures are compliant with state and other regulatory guidelines. Makes decisions related to nursing practice and the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice.
