POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of a qualified Dialysis RN and in accordance with approved policies, procedures and standards, the Dialysis LPN performs tasks and responsibilities associated with direct care needs for patients over the age of 18.  The Dialysis LPN is knowledgeable in the cause and effect of renal disease and in the procedure of hemodialysis.  Assumes accountability and responsibility for carrying out prescribed therapeutic and preventive nursing measures outlined in the patient plan of care.  Assesses pertinent clinical information and communicates observations to the RN for evaluation.  Contributes to the plan of care, conducts health teaching, health counseling, and  may perform advanced therapeutic measures such as IV therapy. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Minimum: Graduate of an approved school of practical nursing.
LICENSE: Minimum: Currently licensed by the New York State Board of Nursing as a practical nurse. 
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS: Minimum: BLS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation IV therapy training after one year of practice
WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum: One year acute care nursing experience. Preferred: One year dialysis, ICU, CCU, ER, or OR experience.  
SKILLS: Minimum: Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.  Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.  Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills. Computer literacy Preferred:  Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record Salary Range: $24.72-$27.45
