LPN - Day Surgery
Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time LPN for our Day Surgery team.The LPN is responsible for administering nursing care to assigned patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. They are responsible for providing care in accordance with standards of nursing practice and will utilize appropriate guest relations and communication in their interactions with patients, families, other customers and members of the healthcare team. Conemaugh Health System serves more than a half-million patients each year through the Nason Physician Group, Conemaugh Physician Group and Medical Staff, a network of four hospitals, specialty clinics and patient-focused programs. *Essential Functions:* Demonstrates clinical competence in caring for patients and provides care according to hospital policies, procedures and standards of practice. Admits and orients patients within 20 minutes after arrival in room. Provides orientation (e.g. Call bell, bed controls) and gathers patient data (e.g. TPR, BP, height/weight). Accurately administers medications and IV therapies in a safe and effective manner according to the patient’s plan of care as directed by RN and reports any adverse effects. Accounts for narcotics as per policy and documents all medications administered. Recognizes errors and adverse reactions and reports them in a timely manner. Functions according to the PA LPN Practice Act and competently delivers care that is consistent with the policies, procedures and standards of Nason Hospital. Provides patients’ safety and security needs by maintaining a clean and safe environment and placing call bells and personal items within patients reach at all times. Assist patient to account for assistive devices (e.g. Glasses, hearing aids, teeth) when transferred from one area to another and at discharge. Uses appropriate safety practices (e.g. Uses side rails, ID patient with armband before treatment/nourishment). Participates in planning, provision and evaluation of patient care and assists with patient and family education. Promptly answers patient call lights and fulfills patient request as soon as possible. Demonstrate proficiency in locating, assembly, use and maintenance of equipment needed, reports malfunction and completes ICES. Regularly observes patient and communicates pertinent patient care information and/or significant changes in patient’s condition (eg. Bleeding, drainage, absence of voiding, dyspnea, pain and unresolved patient care issues) to the RN supervising care. Completes and documents performance improvement activities, participates in problem identification and carries out actions to improve patient care. Maintains current knowledge in areas of present nursing practice, appropriate certification and completion of competencies for assigned unit. Serves as a preceptor for new personnel. *Organizational Expectations:*** Demonstrates support of the mission, vision, values, goals and general policies of Nason Medical Center. Institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse patient/facility developments (e.g. cardiac arrest, fire, disaster) Provides proper notification for absence or tardiness as per Hospital policy. Gives evidence of dependability by infrequent and appropriate use of PTO time. Reports for work on time even in cases of inclement weather. Perform duties in a self-directed and cooperative manner with minimal need for supervision. Using time constructively, keeps outside interruptions to a minimum and organizes assignment for maximum productivity. Attends mandatory in-service and training, utilizes available educational opportunities and complies with employee health policies in a timely manner. Adheres to the standards of professional ethics and handles confidential information in strict conformance with departmental/Hospital policies. Complies with corporate compliance guidelines and requirements of Federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies. Keeps self-updated regarding departmental/Hospital changes through meeting attendance, review of posted material and weekly huddles. Treating all patients as individuals with consideration to their rights, cultural, diversity, privacy, comfort and emotional needs and serves as a patient advocate. Demonstrates understanding hospital infection control procedures and utilizes appropriate handwashing and universal precautions at all times Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills and documents patient care in an accurate and timely manner according to Hospital policy. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people. Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families and co-workers. Demonstrates understanding of emergency and internal/external disaster plans as evidenced by appropriate response to these situations. Manages conflict and frustration in a positive and constructive manner and accepts constructive criticism regarding own nursing judgments or actions. Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in workload, emergencies, staffing and scheduling changes without interference with patient care. Provides quality care consistent with Hospital standards and participates in the Hospital’s Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
