The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to follow the plan of care for patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Licensed Practical Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. *Essential Functions * Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient Prepares patients for examination and treatment Documents patients’ medical history, chief complaint, vital signs and other appropriate information on the medical record Prepares exam and treatment rooms, before and after each patient, with necessary instruments Assists with injections, casts, splints and dressing applications. Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment Orders clinical supplies; monitors and controls clinical expenditures to remain within budget Assists physicians in preparing for minor surgeries, physicals and procedures Schedules or assists with the scheduling of test and treatments for patients Obtains referrals and precertification's for patients Schedules patient appointments as needed and assists with other front office duties as necessary Assisting in maintaining patient files, records and other information to contribute to accurate data gathering. Assist with coding and charges when applicable Attends required meetings and participates in committee as requested Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes health and healing. Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided Must have knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
