PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of the Licensed Practice Nurse – to provide direct patient care, provide patient and family teaching, and work cooperatively within the interdisciplinary health care team in maintaining standards of nursing care under the direction of the registered nurse and within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

QUALIFICATION:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Current licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Ohio IV certified Current BLS certification Demonstrate proficiency in basic nursing service, knowledge, and skills Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based practice

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation Identifies and reports changes in patients’ status to Registered Nurse for evaluation Documents nursing activities accurately and in a timely manner Works within the team nursing model to implement the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment under the direction of the Registered Nurse Administers treatments and other direct care Prepares and administers medications as prescribed Administers peripheral IV medications as prescribed within the scope of licensure under the supervision of the Registered nurse Observes and evaluates residents’ responses to medications  Identifies and promptly communicates adverse drug reactions to the Registered Nurse Collects specimens as ordered Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues Collaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours vary according to departmental needs. Works under the direct supervision of an RN. Lunch and break periods will be assigned by the Charge RN. Requires full range of body motion which may include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range May require exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.      Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
