LRV Technician (External Posting)
Basic Function

Under the direction of the LRV Maintenance Supervisor performs LRV diagnosis and repair of preventative to complex hydraulic and electronic equipment Systems and Subsystems. Read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics and wiring diagrams and sub-systems with the use of portable test equipment, laptop diagnostic and test software applications. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties Works with other Rail Operations sections as necessary to facilitate achieving no less than a 96% on time performance. Inspects, diagnoses, function test and repair rail vehicle systems and equipment. Performs technician level diagnosis and repair of complex electrical and electronic equipment. Performs downloads of diagnostic fault history. Performs fault analysis and diagnose faulty components. Tests, troubleshoot, and repair down to the line replaceable unit level. Tests, troubleshoots, and repairs faulty wiring using OEM Wiring Diagrams and Electrical Schematics. Monitors and replaces consumables on the vehicles. Replaces mechanical components and sub-assemblies. Utilizes special tools and test equipment to perform electronic and electrical circuitry repairs. Works closely with management, supervisory staff, vendors, and contractors with vehicle testing and acceptance programs and in determining fleet defects. Enters work order and job information into a maintenance management system. Prepares warranty documentation for the Warranty Specialist. Documents warranty data according to METRO policies and procedures. Complies with all safety, operating and maintenance procedures. Operates METRORail non-revenue vehicles to include rail car mover, hi-rail equipment, forklifts and re-railing equipment. Provides necessary support for revenue and future start-up operations. Maintains a safe and clean work area. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.  Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as required. Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree in electrical/electronic technology is preferred.

Years & Experience Required

T1 LRV TECHNICIAN CONSIDERATION
Must have a minimum of one (1) year transferable maintenance experience.  Military technical experience is preferred.  LRT experience is preferred. Must score at least 55% or higher on the technical competency test.

T2 LRV TECHNICIAN CONSIDERATION
Must have at least two (2) years of electrical/electronic and mechanical repair experience working on Light Rail Vehicle. Must score at least 55% or higher on the technical competency test. 

T3 LRV TECHNICIAN CONSIDERATION
Must have at least three (3) years of electrical/electronic and mechanical repair experience working on Light Rail Vehicle.  Must score at least 60% or higher on the technical competency test. 

Knowledge & Skills Required

A Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is required for the job and must meet METRO’s motor vehicle records requirements. Must be able to pass a Yard Safety Orientation Course (provided by METRO). Must successfully pass technical competency test prior to an interview. Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills are essential. Ability to communicate well with management, consultants and engineers to resolve vehicle maintenance issues.  Read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics and wiring diagrams.  Utilize bench and portable test equipment for diagnosing, testing and repairing board level components. Utilize vendors software applications required for repairing electronic equipment.
