Job Summary: The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)-Special Procedure for Urology is responsible for providing nursing care to patients who present with urgent, emergent, or potential health problems. Utilizes knowledge of basic nursing principles, practices, and ethics within the LVN Scope of Practice. Performs specialized procedures as allowed by Nurse Practice Act and LLUHS policy, including but not limited to catheterization, intravenous (IV) (when certified), topical anesthetic, suture removal, wound care, urodynamics, and assist with penile injections. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate from a school of Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) required. Minimum one year of urological experience preferred, previous experience assisting with urodynamic studies, biopsies, cystoscopies and other urological procedures preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Basic nursing principles, practices, and ethics within the LVN scope of practice. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Licensures and Certifications: Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) License required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required. Intravenous (IV) certification within ninety (90) days of hire.
