Position Description
This position announcement is for Maintenance & Repair Worker Sr. - Golf Courses, a full-time Civil Service position located in Parks & Recreation. This position performs unskilled and skilled labor tasks required in the maintenance procedures for operation of a golf course. The job requires working in all types of weather, being capable of some strenuous labor involving bending, lifting, climbing, etc., and possibly working around irritant chemicals. The position may require night and weekend work.

Typical Duties
+ May perform the more difficult work in repairing, installing, maintaining, and construction of greens. tees, fairway, and sand traps.
+ Installs and repairs, signs, fences, and related items
+ Operates equipment-Uses power tools, saws, trimmers, edgers, etc.
+ Applies fertilizer or other chemicals as directed by supervisor
+ Grades and prepares ground for springs and sodding
+ Waters and sprays herbicides and chemicals
+ Plants, transplants, and cultivates flowers, plants, shrubs, and greens.
+ Lays sod and do related work for the reclaiming and establishment of turf areas.
+ Supervise proper hand syringing.
+ Repairs irrigation
+ Edges & cleans Sand Traps
+ Performs other related duties.
+ Performs Supervisor duties when needed
+ Runs weekend and project crews.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Eighth Grade Education and one (1) year experience in construction, laboring, maintenance or a related field.
Experience is defined as working knowledge of specialized golf course equipment and golf course maintenance care.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Experience in the golfing industry
+ Experience developing and applying a pesticide program for golf courses
+ Experience recognizing turf disease(s)
+ Experience programming, operating, troubleshooting & repairing irrigation systems
