MA Encounter Specialist
Overview Description: A professional multi skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures. Assisting clinicians with patient care by controlling patient flow as well as expediting patient care by documenting all provider/patient interactions in the medical record under the supervision and responsibility of a licensed clinician. Responsibilities Job Requirement: Take patient's vital signs, prepare patients for provider care. Records details of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, all medical history, medications, allergies, physical exam, assessment and diagnosis. As directed by the provider, records details of physical exam, including pertinent positives and negatives, noted abnormalities, and patient general condition. Participates in performance improvement projects and participates as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care. Provides a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers. Collect and document patient screening questionnaires including: the patient's tobacco status, alcohol use, SDOH, Evaluate Falls Risk questionnaire in the Falls Risk section of the visit navigator and complete screening for new patients, AWVs, and physicals, Complete depression screening (PHQ2, and if applicable PHQ9) for the following visit types of new patients, AWVs, physicals and patients with a chief complaint of depression, etc. Load appropriate documentation template, SOAP/Physical or AWV template, into progress note and insert attestation statement. Treats all information and data utilized in the scope of the position with complete confidentiality in compliance with governing HIPAA regulations. Document HPI, using appropriate standard HPI blocks. Documents abnormal findings, following provider assessments, documenting in physical exam portion of template Enter orders and document results of laboratory and radiographic studies as discussed by provider. Pends orders, future orders as indicated, referrals, associate diagnosis codes. Execute additional tests and treatments, perform venipunctures and administer routine, non-controlled medications. Observe and report patients' signs and symptoms. Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider. Documents patient instructions, using smart phrases, and free texting verbal instructions. Ensures accurate and comprehensive real-time documentation of the patient provider interaction. Schedule follow up visit according to follow up plan, print AVS and review the following with the patient, highlighting changes and key points: Plan of care, Medication changes, Pharmacy, Turnaround time for referrals MyChart Status (Activate pt. if not enrolled) Review health maintenance and Best Practice Advisories. Review with patients and update/remove as applicable; Pend orders for items overdue that patient has agreed to complete. Review pended orders completed via pre visit work with patient. Qualifications Qualification Experience Requirements: 2 years-years Medical Assistant required 1 year Medical Assistant within UFJPI preferred Education: Education High School Diploma or GED equivalent required Certificate Medical Terminology preferred Certificate/Licensure: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required within 6 months Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) required within 6 months Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 6 months Travel Up to 10% Additional Duties Additional duties as assigned may vary.
