MA / Medical Laboratory Assistant - Redicare

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a MA/Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Order, collecting, process routine and specialty testing, and returning results back to doctor.  Obtain, process doctors orders, and data entry.  Provide good customer service on the phone, patients, doctors and other medical staff.  Work well under pressure. Assist nursing staff and doctors in patient care. Perform CLIA waived moderate testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples. Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory. Transporting includes courier lab samples to MVH main lab.
2. Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies. Stocking of nursing supplies and patient rooms. Clean and sterilize instruments.
3. Proficiency in processing and collecting samples for Employee Health and Occupation Health. Completing drug and BAT for Occupation and Employee Health.
4. Organize requisitions received for collection, Maintains records of tests performed Scanning orders and lab results into electronic medical system, print and fax lab reports to ordering doctor.
5. Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
6. May perform special tests such as clotting times, bleeding times, IRTs, and glucose tolerance tests and report results to ordering doctor.
7. Perform CLIA waved testing associated with laboratory (CBC, Rapid kits, ESR, Piccolo). Report results to the ordering doctor. Perform Quality Control on all testing associated with laboratory.
8. Clean patient rooms after use. Clean as needed to ensure patient safety and comfort.
9. Perform patient in take, where patient is shown to an exam room, take vitals, take pertinent information, and fill in the nurse assessment. Set up room for doctor’s needs.
10. Help nurse, doctor, or X-ray as needed.
11. Do call backs.
12. Follow up on missed or unclear charts.
13. Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
a. Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
b. Provides age appropriate care.
c. Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents.
d. Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
14. Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships with a wide range of
organizations and specialists.
a. Maintain effective working relationships between nursing, clerical, medical and allied health staff.
15. Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
16. Orients and mentors new staff members.
17. Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
18. Helps with filing, pulling charts, medical records, scanning, post charges, data entry.
19. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
20. The employee is required to comply with all PCI standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security.
21. Proficient in clerical responsibilities including: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
22. Performs facility responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
23. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physician with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
24. Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.
25. Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the facility.
26. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations or other duties as deemed necessary
27. Act as a liaison between our provider and the patient when coordinating community resources, access to specialty services, follow-up healthcare, etc.
28. Follow-up and help complete identified referrals. Coordinate with specialists and help to integrate recommendations from our provider. Identify barriers for lack of follow through or potential barriers to community resources.
