General Description:

The Machine Assembler position is one that understands how to read assembly drawings, blueprints, schematics, or assembly instructions to assemble, wire, and plumb components and parts into complete machines.  This position requires the skill to properly assemble machines in a way that insures their proper function and continued reliability.  The ability to operate manual and powered hand tools such drills, grinders, and sanders is required.  This position requires minimal supervision and needs to have strong time management skills to meet project deadlines.

Essential Functions:

Read and understand assembly drawings, blueprints, electrical schematics, and pneumatic schematics as needed to assemble production machines. Follow standard assembly procedures and adhere to pre-determined best assembly practices. Hand drill, ream, and tap holes for assembly as needed. Assemble and disassemble complex machines through understanding of assembly steps. Measure components and assembly dimensions using dial calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Properly torque fasteners as required to specification. Properly press/install bearings onto shafts. Route and terminate wires according to electrical prints. Route and terminate pneumatic lines according to prints. Work with engineers and designers in cooperation when building and assembling machines. Work with minimal supervision and/or as a cooperative team when necessary. Maintain a safe and clean workstation while having a safety conscious mind set. Travel to production plants to assist in start-up and commissioning of new machines. Performs other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Minimum 2 years of experience in a machine assembly or maintenance role, or an equivalent combination of experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Able to read and understand engineering assembly drawings, schematics, instructions, and prints. Basic component and assembly measuring skills including but not limited to, machinist levels, dial calipers, internal and external micrometers, and dial indicators. Strong mechanical machine systems understanding required. (Bearings, Gears and Gear Boxes, Cams, Linear Slides and Actuators, Belt and Chain Drives, Punch Tooling, Pneumatic Cylinders and Valves) Strong understanding of proper assembly techniques of mechanical systems. Strong understanding of fasteners required. (Bolts, Nuts, Snap Rings, Roll Pins, Taper Pins, Pull Pins) Basic electrical and pneumatic machine control understanding required.  Ability to interface with individuals with diverse backgrounds at varying levels of the organization.  Familiar with TPM, preventative maintenance, and other maintenance improvement techniques.  Strong communication skills and detail oriented.  Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Microsoft based products a plus but not required.  Knowledge of window production machinery a plus but not required.

Preferred Experience:

2 year technical degree in mechatronics, electrical technician, or equivalent. 5 years of experience in new machine assembly with both Mechanical and Electrical assembly skills. Strong electrical knowledge and panel building experience preferred. Highly detail oriented – able to perform self-checks. Decent Computer skills to be able to access and manipulate assembly documentation and drawings on our vault.
