Brief Summary

The primary responsibility of the Cutoff Operator is to set up and operate cutoff equipment to produce high-quality steel tubes at a precise length with a minimum amount of burr and/or scarf, and at the highest speed possible.  This position will also work closely with the quality inspector and make critical machine adjustment as needed to stay within close tolerances for ovality and straightness of all tubing produced. 

Essential Functions

Set up and operate any one of three flying lathe style cutoffs, one flying bandsaw cutoff, and two flying friction cutoffsOperator computer-controlled equipment to produce tubes at correct lengths within specified tolerancesEnsure that tubes are cut with a minimal amount of burr and scarfAdust machine setups as necessary to cut evenly around the tube with no distortion on the endsMaintain accurate records of orders completed, footage produced, and elapsed timesWear all required PPE and follow all applicable safety policiesWork with team members to share information and contribute to an effective operation

Required Qualifications

1-3 years relevant work experience in a production environmentMust possess basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and the ability to convert decimals and fractions (both ways)Sufficient communication skills to learn from and train other operators and to interact with other team members to achieve an effective operationWorking knowledge of general shop tools such as welders, cutting torches, grinders, tape measures, and micrometersMust be able to read and understand simple blueprintsMust be able to read and write legiblyAbility to stand up to 95% of shift and able to bend and stoop up to 70% of shift
