Machine Operator - 1st Shift

SUMMARY
Sets up and operates the following fabrication equipment and machines: saw, shear, brake press, punch press, mechanical power press, material feeder, drill press, milling machine, and plasma table.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Positions work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade. Cycles machine by pushing button or depresses pedal to activate machine. Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction. Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation. Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece. Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces. Sets-up machine by installing or removing dies; makes needed die and machine adjustments. Performs die changing operations by adhering to die changing and lockout procedures. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years experience in metal fabrication. Must be able to read blue print and read tape measure. Welding experience is a plus.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
