Business Need/Purpose of Role:
A shell coremaker operates the machinery that makes the sand cores which are used in the molds.
Objectives & Measurement – Key Responsibilities:
A molder is responsible for making sand molds into which metal castings are pouredThis person must have a good basic understanding of foundry operationsThey must be familiar with the materials used as additives to sand for molding purposesA molder must also be able to do a series of repetitive tasks for up to eight hours at a timeThey must use their judgment and experience to determine the quality of the finished mold as well as keeping an eye on the characteristics and consistency of the sand used in making the moldA molder must also be intimately familiar with the machinery they operateJob Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
Must be able to do repetitive tasks which require extensive wrist, arm, and shoulder use.Good hand/eye coordination is essentialUpper body strength and good lifting technique is required.Must be willing to run both the mold and core, automated machines.Founded in 1871, Weir is a world leading engineering business with a purpose to make mining operations smarter, more efficient and sustainable.
