Joby Aviation is looking for a self-motivated and flexible Machine Shop Intern. The role is to assist the water jet operator in making fixtures, jigs, test articles, and flight components while working closely with engineering, fabrication, and machine shop teams. Responsibilities Water Jet trainingCut high quality, precision parts and tooling from a variety of materialsHandle material from rough stock to finished partLift and maneuver heavy plate materials into Water Jet bedRead blueprints and other design documents as well as interpret verbal design instructionsResponsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventive maintenance functions on equipmentAbility to perform safely operating water jet, drill presses, saws, grinders, and sheet metal fabrication equipment Required HS diploma or GED equivalentInternship will last 3 monthsEnrolled in a Machine Shop relevant training program Attention to detail and ability to learn quickly and willingness to challenge yourselfSelf-motivated with excellent problem solving and communication skillsAvailable to work overtime and weekendsExperience operating water jet, drill presses, saws, grinders, and/or sheet metal fabrication equipmentAbility to lift 50 lbs unaidedMust possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.Knowledge in use of understanding blueprints, reading a measuring tape, using calipers, and following written instructions Desired Forklift experience3+ years of working experience in relevant industryExperience with composite toolingFamiliarity with Flow and OMAX Water Jet machines and softwareFamiliarity with 2D and 3D water jet operationFamiliarity with laser and/ or plasma cutters

The target base pay for this position is  $18-$27/hr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
