Element has an opportunity for a Department Manager (Machine Shop). In this role you will be a member of the operational leadership team reporting to the Operations Manager or General Manager and perform a variety of leadership responsibilities within the department to insure timely and accurate test results are delivered.
Responsibilities Manage high performing, growing team of Machinists and Operators across two shifts (currently 6 direct reports, up to 10 within 6 months)Responsible for revenue generation to meet annual operating plan responsibility for Machine Shop departmentQuality and Technical responsibility for Mechanical and Machine Shop departments preparation and testing methodsOversee purchasing selections, drive customer concentricity, and continuous improvement and innovation activitiesPerform preparation of test samples, evaluations, and technical review of incoming orders and outgoing test data for tensile testingSet-up, Operate and Monitor machinery to ensure that production is completed in a timely manner, including machining a variety of samples to close tolerances (ASTM Testing methods include A370, E8, E83, E1012, B557, E220, E230, E21, E4, E139, E292, E18, E10)Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, operating instructions, safety rules, and procedure manualsSelect, Align, and Secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials on machinesAbility to use of machine tools and inspection tools such as calipers and micrometers Skills / Qualifications Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role with a diploma or GED, Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferredWorking knowledge of laboratory safety with extensive knowledge of the current suite of testing capabilitiesAbility to read and interpret test specifications, drawings, test plans and/or blueprintsUnderstanding of continuous improvement disciplines such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, etc. preferredAbility to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of resultsProven ability to multi task and work under strict time lines
