Role Purpose
We are currently seeking a committed and proactive Measurements Engineering Intern to join our team, with a mission to advance the manufacturing of next generation glass and ceramics. Corning's products touch our lives daily, from the screens on our smartphones and cars to the fiber optics connecting our world. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, development, and maintenance of measurement systems, working with state-of-the-art equipment such as cameras, lenses, optical sensors, illumination, drones, and robots. You will also utilize novel computer vision and machine learning methods to provide actionable insights and further augment the power of our digital transformation. These are key to improving the efficiency, safety, and quality of our manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities Design and Implement measurement systems for inspection, guidance, and identification in the manufacturing process of glass and ceramics. Build working prototypes on an optical table, choosing from different imaging and illumination platforms, that can serve measurement and vision needs across several Corning businesses. Utilize current machine vision technologies and leverage the vibrant industrial ecosystem. Develop algorithms and build software for data processing and machine learning. Participate in testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of measurement systems to ensure optimal performance and resolve any issues. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand how measurement systems integrate into the larger manufacturing process. Aid in providing technical support and training for operators, maintenance personnel, and other staff to properly use and maintain the measurement systems. Keep up to date with advancements in measurement technology. Help ensure compliance with safety regulations and aid in maintaining documentation for measurement systems. Work closely under the direction of a senior level engineer to structure and execute goals and deliverables. Demonstrate mission ownership and self-motivation in problem solving. Present work to a diverse technical community within the company.

Preference is for students who will have completed their 3rd year of a BS level college engineering program prior to starting the internship and will be graduating within 12 months of finishing the internship. Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity. Be willing to work at the posted job location Desired Skills: Experience/ interest with Imaging, Optics, Lasers, Sensors etc. Hands on experience with robotics: building benchtop systems and automation. Experience/ interest with data acquisition hardware and software. [PLC, LabVIEW, C#] Hands-on experience with computer vision and AI technologies. Hands on experience with any programming language. Software of note: Python, OpenCV, C#, MATLAB, Halcon. Good communication skills. Good documentation skills. Problem solver with strong analytical skills.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
