Program Summary
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII-MT.
Objective
The SkillBridge intern will train as a Marine Technician within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning Machinist Mate (A-Gang) basics and principles to support the Surface Enhanced Capability to Assess Program (SECAP). The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)
At the end of four months, the intern will be able to develop skills needed to schedule, track, assess, and repair equipment on U.S. Naval vessels. Damage Control Equipment assess, inspect, maintenance and repair, perform serviceability inspections and preventative maintenance on Ballast/De-ballasting controls and system, Ship Service Hydraulic system, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves configuration (by class of ship), test the product, make alterations based on feedback, and manage Ships Force with Technical oversite. Training Plan
Phase 1 - Basics
Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization. Week 2: Introduction to Ballast system, Hydraulic system, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems. Week 3: Introduction to the receiving Automated Work Request (AWR)/ Automated Work Notification (AWN), Ship check AWR/AWN in the field and what is really need from the customer. Week 4: Introduction to the building a package for schedule work, and track to completion.
Phase 2 – Marine Technician Operations
Phase 3 – Collaboration, Planning, Customer Feedback
Week 11: Shadow Team Lead or Senior technician with Corrected During Visit (CDV) Major, Minor, Repair Before Operating (RBO), in field repair/Technical assist during assessment. Week 12: Shadow Team Lead or Senior technician with an out brief in the field with a completed assessment. Week 13: Over the shoulder with Team Lead or Senior technician to install all equipment to CSMP that was assessed during visit. Engage with customer for final product feedback.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty military service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
Must have ability to maintain and possess a Secret security clearance. 6 – 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Familiarity with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), International Standards Organization (ISO)Automated Work Request (AWR), Automated Work Notification (AWN), Blueprint reading, Diagrams, Engineering Operational Sequencing System (EOSS) and basic knowledge of tools.#LI-RM1
Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator.
