The Machinist performs work associated with renovation, repair, fitting and assembly of metal parts of machinery or equipment necessary for maintenance or building of new equipment. The ideal candidate possess knowledge to set-up, operator and troubleshoot all machines to affect the fabrication, repair, modification and calibration of gauges, patterns, fixtures, molds, tools and dies used in the manufacturing environment. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and precision based on the requirements from blueprints, rough sketches, work samples and verbal instruction within the following tolerances: Turning - .001 to .003 inch, Milling - .001 to .003 inch, Grinding - .001 to .003 inch, Drilling - .001 to .005 inch, Boring - .001 to .003 inch.

Duties include working with standard, special, and unusual materials as well as steel, bronze, copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, plastic, and nylon. Makes specific machine set-ups to hold work that requires specially constructed devices to properly hold and present work to tooling. Operates overhead crane, rigs, slings, and devices to handle heavy material. Must be able to operate machine shop equipment: Lathe Milling Machine Vertical boring machine Shaper Grinders Band saws Drill Press Machine shop tooling and attachments Must be able to indicate work to repetitive datum plane, parallel, or perpendicular, or concentric to mating parts. Maintains machine shop equipment and tools. Will perform other maintenance work if time is not required in machine shop.Shift Information: 12-hour shift, New hires would likely be placed onto the night shift.
2-2-3 continuous work schedule (This scheduling allows for some natural overtime and gives a three-day weekend every other week)Work Environment: Texarkana, AR Plant
The job is within a fast paced, heavy industrial environment and you may be required to work within various areas of the factory. The environmental conditions can be hot, cold, and noisy. Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures / guidelines must be always adhered to. This includes safety wear such as hearing and eye protection, protective clothing, and steel-toed shoes.Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED or the Workforce Center's Career Readiness Certification (CRC) with a minimum of Silver Certificate level Must be at least 18 years of age Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship now or in the future Required to lift heavy materials, climb, stand, squat, bend and work at heights with or without reasonable accommodations CNC Machine experience or successful completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in this specific craft Have working knowledge of physical properties of common metals (i.e. strength in shear, tension and compression, hardness) Must complete aptitude test and hands-on assessment administered by an outside partyGoodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies.
