MACHINIST (TITLE 32)
Summary This a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position. This National Guard position is an Indefinite Reimbursable WG-3414-10/11 MACHINIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2742000 (WG 10)/D2741000 (WG 11) and is part of the MO TASMG Shop. This is a bargaining position. SEE NOTES UNDER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW. Responsibilities Performs a variety of machine operations to manufacture, modify, and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools, and assemblies. Fabricates local manufactured items required for aircraft components. Works to close tolerances to prevent cumulative error or the affecting of optical or other properties or characteristics. Performs incidental precision bench and assembly work. Grinds and sharpens tools. Selects tools, jigs, and fixtures required to achieve specific dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes. Performs precision handwork to finish, fit and assemble machined parts. Plans and lays out work. Makes special tools and fixtures, and performs production work of aircraft parts, and works to tolerances that are difficult to attain or hold. Fabricates special items that require nonstandard application of standard equipment. Performs machine setup requiring advanced shop mathematics. Determines procedures, tools, machines, equipment, and attachments to be used. Conducts training for lower graded machinists, and traditional drilling service members assigned to the shop. Assists lower graded machinists in laying out work, and reviews work completed. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate must currently be assigned to a military unit in the Missouri Air/Army National Guard. Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion). Maximum Military Grade - SSG (E-6) with date of rank after 1 April 2020 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided you with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools. WG-10 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess possess experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments; experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information; skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined; skill programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools; and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension. WG-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments; experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information; skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined; skill programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools; ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension; and skill performing work that require accomplishing untried tasks or procedures? Must also possess knowledge of the effect and relationship of heat-treating, annealing, plating, welding and other related work processes on various machining operations in completing assignments. This position will be filled at the WG-10 trainee grade or the target grade of WG-11. An applicant who is selected at the trainee grade will have potential for promotion to the target grade of WG-11 without further competition. Promotion to full operating/journeyman level will be made after qualifications and eligibility requirements have been met and the incumbent is performing at the higher level in a satisfactory manner. Education This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
