We are operating as an approved DoD SkillBridge Organization in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 1322.29. General Dynamics NASSCO is honored to assist our military and has specifically designed our internships to prepare participants for their transition to civilian life.
The General Dynamics NASSCO SkillBridge Military Internship program is being afforded to all ranks, enlisted or officer, both active duty Military Members of all supporting branches and Military Spouses. Participants are not eligible for compensation from the company, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. A General Dynamics NASSCO SkillBridge Military Internship, whether entry or mid-level, is an opportunity for individuals to gain valuable civilian experience through specific industry training during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. You will job-shadow and learn from experienced leaders and other smart, motivated people. This program will help you develop best in class skills on mission critical work. Participation in General Dynamics NASSCO SkillBridge Military Internship Program is voluntary, Service member-initiated, and must be authorized by the individuals chain of command prior to the start of the internship. Successful completion of all necessary company agreements and documentation will also be required.

SUMMARY
Responsible for receiving, delivering and processing external and internal mail. Reports to the Manager of Plant Security. Maintains contacts with all departments. External contacts include courier service providers and the United States Post Office. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Receives and sorts incoming and NASSCO interdepartmental mail. 25% Delivers mail to exact locations and picks up interdepartmental and outgoing mail. 55% Processes all outgoing mail applying accurate postage and completing required postage receipts. 15% Performs other tasks as required. 5% Investigates and utilizes cost saving measures on postage and mail sorting machine supplies
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or its equivalency (GED). Knowledge of the layout of the shipyard and location of mail stops. Must have a general understanding of U.S. Postal regulations and mailing requirements. Must learn to operate the postal scale and meter. A valid driver’s license to operate the mail delivery vehicle and travel to the central Mail Office (Midway) when necessary. Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense clearance to the level of Secret. Ability to safeguard Company confidential information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to commute to all areas of the shipyard. Extensive walking and climbing of stairs. Ability to drive and work around moving machinery. Physical environment includes work in an outdoor shipyard environment, and ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable for timely and accurate processing of company mail, while seeking cost saving measures.
