As our Mail and parcel Sorting Officer, you’ll be working at the Cairns Mail & Parcel Processing Centre where you’ll be responsible for manually sorting mail in preparation for delivery the next day. You’ll play a key role in supporting our Posties, who provide a vital service to our local community every single day.
You might not be working from home, but you’ll be working together with a friendly team of like-minded people, and your community relies on you, and it doesn’t get better than that!
Please note we require employee availability across all shifts as below:
First 4-6 weeks of training only, shift times are from 4pm to midnight
Following that, shifts will mainly be assigned to mornings as follows:
Weekdays 4am to 11:51am / 4:30am to 12:21pm
Very occasional 10:30am to 6:21pm (maybe once every few weeks)
Sunday rotation working 1x Sunday every few weeks commencing 8am OR 3pm depending on business requirements
You’ll be
On your feet for long shifts doing manual handling work around machineryDoing repetitive heavy lifting of packages and parcels including cases of alcohol (up to 16kg) Manually loading and unloading heavy mail from mail bags, trays, containers and metal cages (Unit Loading Devices) Operating with and using a straight-line conveyer, pallet jacks (manual and electric), and stackersAssisting operations staff to get the mail into the facility from delivery vehiclesAbout you

At Australia Post, our training and induction programs offer support to ensure we set you up for success. You will attend an online induction on your first day with our Learning and Development Team followed by a site-specific induction at your respective facility and additional online learning modules. As a new employee, you will be paired up with a buddy, followed by regular check-ins with your Manager and Trainer to track progress, provide feedback, and discuss any support needed. We assess development at the end of each month during your probationary period, with adjustments or additional training as required. The program includes site-specific inductions and hands-on training, building employees up to work at full capacity within six weeks, ensuring long-term success and continuous growth.
