This leader will have a broad understanding across technical systems, with an emphasis on mainframe systems and architecture, including infrastructure and software, policies, overall capability, security, availability, and reliability. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. **Primary Roles & Responsibilities** 1. Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Mainframe operating system, middleware (CICS, DB2, VTAM), and related technologies. 2. Ensure high availability, performance, and security of the Mainframe platform. 3. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and modernize the Mainframe environment. 4. Manage and mentor a high-performing team of Mainframe Engineers. 5. Establish and maintain robust operational procedures and service level agreements. 6. Oversee incident management, problem resolution, and capacity planning. 7. Ensure compliance with all relevant operational and security standards. 8. Develop and execute the long-term strategy for the Mainframe platform, aligning with business objectives and technology roadmap. 9. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions to enhance the capabilities of the Mainframe. 10. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices related to Mainframe technologies. 11. Consulting engagements for product squads to enable adaption and DevOps ownership practices: Example: Use of Terraform, or CI/CD onboarding. 12. Provide expert-level technical guidance and oversight for all aspects of the Mainframe environment. **Driving Responsibilities** 1. Lead the procurement process for Mainframe hardware and software, including negotiations with vendors and contract management. 2. Ensure cost-effective and efficient utilization of resources. 3. Maintain a strong understanding of hardware and software licensing agreements. 4. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including those related to data security, privacy, and operational risk. 5. Collaborate with compliance and audit teams to address any regulatory concerns. 6. Stay informed of evolving regulatory changes and their impact on the Mainframe environment. 7. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of the Financial Services industry. 8. Leverage this knowledge to optimize Mainframe operations and support business goals. 9. Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Required Qualifications:** The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree and 15 to 20 years related experience or equivalent combination. 2. Excellent knowledge of technical management and data governance. 3. Knowledge of current trends in IT hardware and systems software field. 4. Database management skills with the ability to produce reports. 5. Familiarity with the support and troubleshooting of personal computers and tablet devices. 6. Analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, and implement robust solutions 7. Interpret guidelines and analyze information to adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances. 8. Duties may require non-routine analysis, research and follow-through 9. The position requires strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment 10. Purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in the budget 22. Ability to manage personnel with little supervision **Preferred Qualifications:** 1. Proven ability to manage a team (s) of highly experienced and skilled Mainframe System Engineers/Programmers, as well as, ability to integrate less experienced Engineers into the team. 2. Experience with managing and administering mainframe systems and operating system software such IBM zOS, DB2, CICS, VTAM, and MQ. 3. In-depth understanding of security and access controls such as RACF (Resource Access Control Facility), MFA, and cryptography. 4. Understanding and familiarity with mainframe scanning utilities such as zAssure and Qualys. 5. Experience with various mainframe applications and utilities such as, but not limited to, zOS Connect, Performance Essentials, FDR/ABR, IAM, zSORT, DFSMSxxx, CPSM, CAFC, Dynatrace, IZMS (Omegamon), CR-Plus, MXi. 6.
