The Regional Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) is responsible for the maintenance and reliability of electrical systems and equipment across Stericycle’s regional facilities. Working under the direction of the XXX, the role ensures the effective delivery of Stericycle’s total preventative maintenance strategy. This includes planned and reactive maintenance, upgrades, and the continuous improvement of plant reliability. The role is integral to minimising downtime and supporting safe and efficient plant operations across the Stericycle network.
Key activities include:
• Conducting fault diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance of all electrical systems and components.
• Supporting planned plant shutdowns and upgrades.
• Maintaining records of maintenance activities via the Maintenance Management System.
• Ensuring compliance with UK health and safety regulations and company standards.
• Collaborating with operations and engineering teams to enhance plant performance.
Electrical Maintenance
• Perform fault finding, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical systems, including motors, drives, switchgear, and instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level, and flow sensors).
• Maintain control systems such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Conduct inspections, routine maintenance, and upgrades to electrical equipment to ensure reliability and operational efficiency.
Planned and Reactive Maintenance
• Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
• Provide rapid response to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and restoring systems to full functionality.
• Actively identify opportunities to perform preventative maintenance during plant availability.
Contractor and Project Management
• Oversee contractors performing maintenance or project work, ensuring compliance with Stericycle standards and safety regulations.
• Issue permits to work and conduct risk assessments for contractor-led activities.
• Support plant improvement projects, including the installation, commissioning, and upgrade of electrical equipment.
Technical Support and Documentation
• Assist operational teams with technical expertise to resolve complex electrical issues.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, fault reports, and asset history.
• Monitor spare parts inventory, advising on stock requirements to support maintenance schedules.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
• Adhere to Stericycle’s health and safety policies, ensuring all tasks are conducted in line with UK legislation and company standards.
• Safely isolate electrical equipment to enable maintenance activities, ensuring zero harm to personnel.
• Conduct and document risk assessments, implementing control measures to minimize risks during maintenance activities.
Out of Hours Support
• Be available to provide emergency support outside of normal working hours when required.
Essential Qualifications
• Time-served apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering.
• Relevant engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, ONC, or HNC in Electrical Engineering.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
• Proven experience in electrical maintenance within heavy process industries (e.g., power generation, manufacturing, or similar).
Desirable Qualifications
• Recognized training in PLC programming and control systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
• Familiarity with robotic and automated systems.
Experience Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience in electrical maintenance, including fault finding, repairs, and system upgrades.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance in industrial settings.
• Experience managing contractors and supervising maintenance projects.
Analytical and Diagnostic Skills
• Demonstrates the ability to assess situations using analytical and logical reasoning.
• Experienced in using investigative approaches such as the "5 Whys" or "Fishbone Diagram" for diagnosing faults or developing Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).

• Takes ownership of allocated projects, persisting with tasks to ensure successful completion.
• Willingness to commit the necessary time and effort to achieve high-quality, compliant outcomes.

o Working at heights.
o Operating in enclosed or confined spaces.
o Adhering to stringent safety protocols in a high-risk industrial setting.
