The Fuel Terminal Maintenance Worker will perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections on terminal equipment to ensure operational integrity, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role is critical in maintaining the functionality of pumps, valves, piping systems, electrical systems, and safety equipment involved in fuel storage and transfer. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently or within a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on fuel storage tanks, piping systems, pumps, valves, loading racks, and other terminal equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Equipment Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues related to fuel terminal systems, including pumps, meters, control systems, and emergency shutdown equipment. Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, and local environmental and fire safety codes. Participate in safety drills and training programs. Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, operational problems, and process abnormalities to prevent disruptions in fuel storage or distribution operations. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment calibrations using the terminal’s maintenance management system. Team Collaboration: Work closely with terminal operators, engineers, and management to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimize downtime of critical equipment. Emergency Response: Participate in terminal emergency response efforts, including fuel spill containment and equipment failure protocols. Inspections: Perform regular inspections of tanks, pipelines, and associated equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to identify any maintenance needs or potential hazards. Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for ongoing maintenance and emergency repairs. Required Skills & Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, especially in industrial environments (fuel, oil, or chemical industries preferred). Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems, as well as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). Safety-Oriented: Thorough understanding of safe work practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, hazardous materials handling, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA safety training, HAZMAT handling, or electrical certification) are a plus. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities and diagnostic skills to address equipment failures quickly and effectively. Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions. Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail when performing maintenance tasks, inspections, and safety audits. Team Player: Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and effectively communicate with coworkers and supervisors. Adaptability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Terminal Operations: Previous experience working in a fuel or liquid terminal environment. Technical Certifications: Welding, electrical, or instrumentation certifications. Environmental & Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental regulations and fuel storage safety standards. Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in outdoor environments with exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to lift and move up to [weight limit] pounds. Ability to stand, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
