General Summary:

The maintenance manager will lead and support continuous improvement processes through decision making, employee involvement, systems and training and be expected to meet and exceed objectives and metrics for safety, cost and productivity performance, Provide leadership, staff supervision, and technical expertise in support of utility and facility equipment to support the Lehigh Valley, PA plant location.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       Develops programs, procedures and practices to encourage employees to work safety in an environmentally responsible manner to achieve quality results at acceptable cost levels.

·       Participates in safety, health, and environmental continuous improvement initiatives.

·       Create a strong work culture that emphasizes teamwork and continuous improvement. Promotes teamwork and productivity via open communication, timely decision making and individual accountability within the team.

·       Prepares budgets and monitors expenses.

·       Plans, coordinates and oversees annual plant and boiler shutdown activities.

·       Provides technical support for maintenance functions for central maintenance.

·       Manages the Avient Reliability Program.

·       Provides advisory support to the plant-engineering group.

·       Maintains plant engineering standards and compliance.

·       Drives the cultural changes necessary for the organization.

·       Resolves personnel conflicts and ensures customer satisfaction.

·       Develops systems and uses applicable tools to improve understanding of maintenance costs and utility measures relative to overall goals of reliability.

·       Creates and supports an organizational culture that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, customer focus and continuous improvement.

·       Supports the plant’s sustainability efforts to achieve Avient’s 2030 Sustainability goals of reducing waste to landfill and energy consumption.

·       Oversees the daily operation of the utilities systems for the site.

·       Inspects and troubleshoots equipment as needed, including steam boiler internals.

·       Manages engineering stores functions to properly support plant needs, including maintenance material and contracting needs, process material needs, raw material purchasing, and physical inventory.

·       Other projects/duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications - External

Education and Experience

·       BS/BA degree in a related technical field with 6 years experience in industrial maintenance/construction or planning and scheduling; OR AA/AS in a related technical field with 7 years experience in industrial maintenance/construction or planning and scheduling OR 8 years experience in industrial maintenance/construction, or design/CADD experience preferred.

·       10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing facility in a maintenance  department

·       Formal Lean and Six-Sigma training including successful demonstration of implementation in a manufacturing environment preferred.

·       OSHA certification or training preferred.

Required Experience/Qualifications

·       Experience supervising employees

·       Experience managing projects in excess of $50,000

·       Knowledge of APM corporate requirements for IER, Maintenance, and MRO

·       Advanced troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Project.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and use for tasks, meetings, and other organizational tools.

·       Very skilled in the use of a PC and able to learn new software quickly.

·       Able to coordinate team efforts and keep the group informed and organized.

·       Ability to effectively interact with a variety of departments and resolve conflicts.

·       Experience in maintenance support and/or reliability engineering.

·       Demonstrated ability to establish a new culture within operations and be an effective driver of change

·       Demonstrated success of developing employees and encouraging talent

·       Thorough knowledge of manufacturing operations; prior experience in extrusion and/or molding operations strongly preferred

·       Experience and savvy to properly balance when to be collaborative versus bias for action. Comfortable making quick decisions where there is ambiguity and uncertainty.

·       Must be able to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization as well as customers and suppliers.

·       Knowledge of current Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and standards.

·       Ability to work a flexible schedule to ensure visibility and leadership across a multi shift operation

·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.  Specific vision abilities may require close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise to loud.

·       Depending on the location of work, the employee may be exposed to a magnetic field from a rare earth magnet.
